I’m using a 4 gig flash drive on Motif xs and have sampled things various time in the Pattern mode. In the file menu I’ve saved these samples (or at least thought I did) only to have lost them for good. Any tips on how to save and load a sample back into your pattern as well as still have the sample sliced and layed chromatically on the lowest keys so it correctly plays a remix of the original sample. thanks -first time poster |

It is important to know where you have stored your data so that you do not lose it. You can only have lost your data when you are not certain where you have put it (just as in life). Let’s see if we can outline how it works: If you sample to the Sequencer, and by that I mean, you use the [INTEGRATED SAMPLING] RECORD TYPE = “sample+note”, or “slice+seq” or you have executed the INTEGRATED SAMPLING > JOB called “SLICE” (which creates a multiple sample waveform key map) then your sample data is stored in what is called a USER SAMPLE VOICE. The TRACK will have a Wave icon next to the Track number (as opposed to a MIDI jack icon as found on a regular MIDI track).
This USER SAMPLE VOICE is always saved when you save as ALL PATTERN (if you are working in PATTERN mode) .X0P
The USER SAMPLE VOICE will be shown on the MIXER screen with the two letter BANK prefix “SP” short for Sample.
Obviously the best way to save PATTERN or SONG data that contains USER Voices that are in the normal USER banks is to SAVE as ALL Data (as you don’t have to worry about re-assembling the data manually)… ALL data saves EVERYTHING that is STORED just as it is… If you place your user samples in a MIXV (MIXING VOICE) - which is a special normal (non-drum) Voice that is local to the current MIXING setup, that MIX VOICE will be Saved when you save the ALL PATTERN or ALL SONG file. After all the MIX VOICE is local to just that PATTERN or SONG MIX. Hope that covers it. In short, if you have one of your samples in a USER 1, USER 2, USER 3 or USER Drum kit, then you better Save as ALL data (.X0A)… If you have recorded an audio clip to the sequencer (wave icon on the track) then you can save as ALL PATTERN or ALL SONG according to the mode you were working in. You can even load individual User SAMPLE VOICES from within an ALL PATTERN (.X0P), ALL SONG (.X0S) or ALL data (.X0A) file using the FILE Type = Sample Voice One last thing: ONLY the data that has been STORED gets SAVED. If you sample to the sequencer and then SAVE, but you did not STORE your Sequence and Mix first… the last STORED state will be SAVED to the file. Here is a tip (and once you notice it you will always remember): If you have Edited anything in the Motif XS be it a Voice or a Sequence a small purple letter “E” (for Edit) appears in the upper right corner. This will be there to remind you that the data currently differs from the last stored status. Change anything and the “E” appears. Before you put things away, check the upper right corner and determine if you should STORE before SAVING… if that last edit you did is meaningless, then you don’t have to… but if that last change you made is important… [STORE] before you SAVE. |
