guys, Trying hard to setup AI4 on my Vista laptop. Loaded the latest update of AI4, then loaded the extensions and both Studio Manager and the XS editor. Trying to read the setup article and I’ve got as far as opening devices - studio Manager but there are no editors at all listed. Can somebody point me in the right direction ?? |

Love to help you but it is pretty apparent that you downloaded perhaps the wrong version of the Editor. Without information about what you downloaded it will be impossible to really zero in your specific problem. There are different combinations of updates for different systems. For example, you say you have downloaded the Studio Manager - if you want to use the Studio Manager then you needed to download the Version of the Editor for your product that goes with Studio Manager. If you own an XS there are two different versions of the Editor (one for Studio Manager, and one for folks using the mLAN16E2).
The Motif XS Editor version 1.1.1 is for Studio Manager.
Which are you? |

Might have been apparent to you BM, but not to me, which is why I asked for the help. You of all people should know to treat others as if we’re MOTIFly challenged unless otherwise stated. ;o) Yes, as you quite rightly guessed, I’d loaded the 1.2.blah for the Mlan, which I don’t got, as I have a bog standard XS6. Now, having looked on the XS page for the downloads, the 1.1.1 editor doesn’t load up with anything on the page, and when I go to yamahasynth.com downloads, the 1.1.1 says its a firewire install. Can you point me in the right direction for the correct link for just the editor for use over USB. Ta very muchly…

Its ok people, just ignore me. I really should try scrolling down the page rather than assuming the links give me what I need. ...as you were… |

Ok next problem : I’ve got the USB XS editor within the studio manager going, but I can’t sync the XS and PC, its saying frimware version error. Any ideas as to how I cure this ?? BTW - it seems I can hit a key on the virtual piano and the key sounds on the XS, and I get the offline with blue dot, I load up a file from the XS, but it won’t play back when I start from the PC. If anybody would be willing to spend some time with me in messenger when I get home, I’d be most grateful… |

Seeing as how most of the posts in this thread are mine I’m not holding out much hope, but I thought I’d ask anyway. I’m at the point with this now where I installed the latest OS on my XS6 last night, and that seems to have cured my Editor Sync’ing problem, and I can now load up my song instruments on Cubase and have the Editor change all my stuff on the XS - GREAT. However, I still can’t playback the song. The XS seems to have disappeared in the Devices - MIDI setup, it’s no longer in the list. Any ideas as to which bit I need to re-install ?? |

You seem to have been getting very close. Let’s review.
_ You have updated your Motif XS to the latest firmware version 1.12 (check)
If you file in the details in your Profile on the site, the “mySoftware [Updates]” function on the right of the screen will keep you abreast of updates of interest (that’s the concept anyway). We are not sure really what you are running other than a laptop with Vista (32-bit?, 64-bit?) Sorry, we missed your earlier posts. Also, you should turn on your Motif XS before you launch your software… when Cubase or Nuendo boot up, they check to see what is connected. If you turn the XS on last, Cubase and Nuendo may not see the XS at all. |

Hey BM, Yeah - getting there slowly.......very slowly LOL Right as you say lets review :
MOTIF XS6 upgraded to 1.12 - check
I can hit a key on the XS and whatever Cubase is using for PC piano plays the corresponding note. I can also load into the XS editoran ALL file and the corresponding SONG data ( instruments ) are set up on the XS6, and when I click on a key on the virtual piano in Cubase, I get it played on the XS. What it doesn’t seem to do is send any SONG data to the XS when I click play on Cubase, having loaded in the song. I can see it play in cubase, I get a rather nasty PC piano with ALL tracks played as piano ( as I say, nasty ), but nothing on the XS. Do you think re-installing the Yamaha USB will help ?? or is that likely to mess the editor sync up again ?? |

No. I don’t. If the driver lets you communicate - reinstalling it is just a waste of time. It is installed, it is working. You do not have it configured properly, is all. If it were not installed correctly you would not be able to communicate AT ALL. SO please do not waste your time re-installing (it only adds to the frustration and really does not solve anything).
In Cubase:
And let us know which items are marked in the column on the far right: “In ‘All Inputs’”? |

Good point, we still don’t have any information beyond Vista 32-bit about the versions of the items you have installed. There are many different computer types available - we have to have the version of items to help you or we can simply keep going around the barn guessing… If you can please provide the versions of the items you are dealing with, it does make a difference - as noted above. |
