Nothing can be saved to the Factory preset slots. Once, edited, the factory voices must be saved as User voices (User Bank 1, 2, or 3) in order to preserve the edits… |

User voices that include external samples are stored in two memories in the Motif XS. The programming for the voices is stored in the user voice banks. This memory is non-volatile, meaning that it is preserved even when you power cycle the instrument. However, the samples for such voices are stored in user sample memory (the DIMM memory modules which must be purchased and installed in your Motif XS). This memory is volatile - meaning that it is lost when you power down the instrument. Therefore, as a minimum, you must reload these samples (into the correct user waveform locations) each time you power cycle the instrument. The easiest way to ensure that the samples are loaded into the correct locations is to simply save an ALL (or ALL VOICE) file after you have loaded the Xpanded voices you desire. You can then setup the XS to automatically load this file on power up. (For more information on automatically loading files on power up, see pages 262-263 of the Motif XS Owner’s Manual.)
