I have a problem with midi sound not making it over to my Motif Rack via Cubase SX3.  See below for my setup details.  Any help is appreciated.

- Midi controller keyboard in and out ports directly fed into Motif In/Out ports.

- Motif USB midi interface connection direct to computer

- Cubase device mgr midi ports (4 INs and 4 OUTs).  All active.

- In a new project, I define my midi IN and Out to be USB midi port #1.

- When I press a key on my keyboard, I can see the red bar spike up in cubase indicating it got the key press.

- But I don’t hear any playback from the Motif at all.  Doesn’t matter if I’m in voice or multi mode.

- btw, if I exit Cubase entirely, everything works ok.  So I think it’s something in Cubase.

Take a look at page 18 of the manual.  The MIDI jacks on the back of the Rack XS transmit and receive on Port 3.

So set Cubase MIDI in to Port 3 and Cubase MIDI out to Port 1.

-----------------------------------------------------------

When connecting the MOTIF-RACK XS to a computer using a USB cable or an IEEE1394 cable, the MIDI ports are defined as follows:
• Port 1
The tone generator block in the MOTIF-RACK XS can recognize and
use only this port.
When playing the MOTIF-RACK XS sounds from an external MIDI
instrument or computer, you should set the MIDI Port to 1 on the
connected MIDI device or computer.
• Port 3
This port is used as the MIDI Thru Port. The MIDI data received over
Port 3 via the USB TO HOST or mLAN terminal will be re-transmitted
to an external MIDI device or computer via the MIDI OUT terminal.
The MIDI data received over Port 3 via the MIDI IN terminal will be
retransmitted to an external device (computer, etc.) via the USB TO HOST or mLAN terminal.

“when all else fails, read the directions...” words to live by.  You are 100% right.  That was my problem.  It’s fixed now - and thanks a ton for your help.  Much appreciated.
