This is a piece I did few months ago. I enjoy doing Latin pieces sometimes. This one is one of my favorites. Jim File Attachments

Nice mix Jim. A very nice piece. The end sounded abrupt, but I’m not familiar with the original. |

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah I was planning to lengthen it and never got around to it so yeah it ends sorta fast. What is funny is I’m replying to your comments that I can’t see unless I log out. When I log out I can see comments, and when I’m logged in they are invisible. I can see in the stats that there are comments, I just can’t see them. Those darn critters are hard to kill without DDT!!!! Jim |

Jim, Excellent guitar playing and a pretty good tune overall! Unfortunately the EWQLSO Solo Violin sounds awful. This is not your fault, it’s just a bad sample and the release trails make it sound even worse. Given that the solo violin has these long release trails, it sounded like the guitar and the violin were recorded in two different rooms which kinda ruined the overall mix. Also, occasionally, it felt like the violin and guitar were “melody-fighting”, so it became a bit difficult to decide which melody to listen to, if you know what I mean. You should consider toning down the guitar while the violin plays the solo and vice versa unless the “melody fighting” was intentional in which case you need to make it more obvious. :-) This tune sort of reminded me of Por Una Cabeza. I’m a sucker for latin-inspired music! :-) Anyway, back to your tune. The production was really well done, loud and nicely balanced and despite the few things I mentioned above, I enjoyed it! Good work! Thomas. |

Thanks Thomas, That is the sort of Review I enjoy, One that is well thought out and with some actual Ideas to improve the piece. The melody fighting is intentional, but I thought it was too much when I made it more obvious. Yeah the EWQL Solo Violins is not that great. I have IK Philharmonik and it has better Violin solos, and even better it has some that are programed to use Breath Control. I should redo the violin sample with my WX-5 Wind Synth. Thanks for your well thought out critique of my song :D Jim |

Listening to this song as I write and I must disagree with thomas on two points. The melody fighting? I dont hear it, I think its bang on and a lovely tune. Secondly, hey, that violin sounds pretty nice to me and my father is a concert violinist. I think 99% of the population wouldn’t think anything other than, “thats a violin, lovely song”
However, I do have one critisism, that is the bongo pattern. I really, really think its the wrong feel to go with the melody. If it were half time, more like a bossa I think it would make the song twice as good. Just my thoughts, but I really enjoyed your work , its finished playing as I typed, I’m going back for another listen!

Thanks for your comments Mike, I’m glad you liked it. The Violin sound will just be a pretty violin solo to most people. I really should try this using IKs Philharminik Violins with breath so show how much better the violin solo can sound. I can see your comment with the Bongos. I should try it to see how I like a mellower half time bongo line. Again thanks for real constructive ideas here. I really appreciate it. Jim |

Nice work. The ending threw me though. Like mikeynyuk, I didn’t really hear the “melody fighting”. But I suspect if did, I would welcome it because most of my songs aren’t busy enough. Almost like I don’t quite go “far enough” with melody development. (Like to play it safe, I guess). But I listen to guys like you on this site and I’m learning more each time. As a matter of fact, I just got home from the hospital after having my knee “scoped”. I’m supposed to lay back with a pillow under my knee but had to check in to the site and when I played your song I said, “The heck with that”! And powered up my XS7 (lol). Yes, I feel the bongos could either be toned down a bit or “half-timed”. As I write this, I’m giving it another listen and perhaps the guitar could take a (small) back seat to the violins which by the way I find no fault with. If the guitar played a slightly more supporting role to the violin, I think it would draw the listener in even moreso. Just an opinion. Good work. Look forward to more of your music. |

that’s some mad guitar skills you got there! my wife plays violin and this would prob drive her nuts (she can’t stand anything but the real thing), but I think it’s pretty decent as is (even though I do notice the “synth-iness” of it here and there) I agree about maybe toning down the bongos a little bit |
