OK, let’s see if this works now. Another cover of a Rush song from the Rush freak. Trilogy for the Bass, Ezdrummer for the drums and MO7 for the strings and synth. No attempt at vocals… Geddy Lee just doesn’t sound right as a baritone. File Attachments

Great job with this song, the guitar sounds are very much like the orignal, and the solo was particularly well done. Let me point out I am a big Rush fan, I named my software company Limelight and I’ve released a game called Red Sector 2112… there are 3 Rush songs there already :-) |

Sounded great. Did you program the drum track? Well done. |

I like the hesitations in the track. Not bad. I like this one. A lot of energy. Thanks for sharing… |

Wow. That’s almost a perfect match to my casual Rush ear. Seems like there is a little hiccup/skipping with the drums at the beginning, and maybe a couple other spots, but perhaps it’s right and I don’t know the song well enough. Guitar solo is great. I don’t know how people get that kind of real guitar sound out of a keyboard. Unless you played it on guitar? A real labor of love, eh? |

Thanks for the listen guys, I don’t get much time to work on projects these days so your feedback and listening are really appreciated. Answers to a couple of the questions here: tbone - I didn’t do the programming on the drum track, just used a pretty good midi from the web for a foundation. However, there are some tweaks on the mapping of individual kit elements, to get the most out of Ezdrummer’s extended sample library. The multi-samples for each piece are layered at multiple velocity ranges with different articulations, and there is a built in feature that makes the plug trigger different samples when the same note is played consecutively (basically eliminating the machine gun effect). The onboard mixer in the plug lets you render individual kit elements to single tracks as well, giving you complete control over EQ and compression for individual drums. Even a “poorly” programmed sequence (like some of the ones I do program) and some decent mixing, can end up sounding very convincing. I guess you’ve got to try to go those extra steps when you’re trying to replicate a Neil Peart drum track. jmaths - All the guitar parts are played on real guitars, and I spent a considerable amount of time this time around to get the guitar patches as close to the original recording (live version) as possible. There are some forum members here that are extremely great keyboard guitar players, and some of the tracks I’ve listened to just freak me out! OK, now I’m dating myself… Thanks again all! |
