What is AF referring to? I am assuming AS refers to Assign 1 & 2, correct?

AF refers to the ASSIGNABLE FUNCTION buttons at the left of the XS.

Tried to use it but....Wide String AF1....in info below it shows AF 1 ....blank and AF 2 ....blank. Tried using AF buttons on left. They light up for a second and shut off. Obviously I’m missing a step.

Also I notice on arps, before name they have letters like F, I, and M followed by A, B, C ,D with a number sometimes. I know the latter is a grouping letter/number but what do the initial letters mean?

The AF buttons operate in two possible modes - momentary or latched. If a button doesn’t stay lit after being pressed, then it’s been programmed for momentary operation, and needs to be held down for the function to take place.

See (4) A. Function 1 Mode and (5) A. Function 2 Mode on page 100 of the XS Owner’s Manual.

You might find this thread, and my XS-XF AF1-AF2 Elements Ljust.zip linked in it, of interest:

See the second post by Mr. Spock in this thread:

By the way, the Yamaha Synthesizer Parameter Manual mentioned in that thread can be found here:

I downloaded your list. Unfortunately my tablet doesn’t have an app to open it. Any suggestions?

That info from Spock was very helpful. Thanks.

Attached is a PDF version, zipped - hopefully it will work for you.
Be sure to see the Notes on the last page.

I’m glad it did the trick. That should help to clarify what the AF buttons are doing when the XS screen display alone doesn’t provide the information.
