I cannot find out if the data output on the coax SPDIF is always on in the XS8. or if there is any way switching it off.
If I know it is always on in the XS8 I can take my troubleshooting regarding SPDIF elrewhere as the XS8 can be ruled out.

Thanks

The S/PDIF output is the digital audio signal before it goes to the DACs in the XS. If there’s audio present at the main R and L outputs, then there should be digital audio at the DIGITAL OUT connector. There is no way to switch it off.

Thats great to know it is always on. I can go look for my SPDIF issues downstream.

A couple of things to keep in mind…
1) Receiving device should be set for 44.1 kHz.
2) The cable should be 75 ohm, either specifically for S/PDIF or one meant for composite video will work. A standard audio cable, especially if long, can attenuate the signal, which has a data frequency of almost 3 MHz, and clock double that.
