Greetings everyone. Hope you are safe and healthy during these crazy times.
A few years back a member posted an app they developed that generated a text file of a motif X3A file. It showed the patterns and songs. Can someone direct me to that particular link? I’d be indebted.

Wow, time flies - it’s been over six years since Michael Trigoboff posted his motif2text app.
Here’s the link:

Boy do I appreciate the expediency. I should have known Michael was behind that snippet. He’s quite talented in development. I started the post title with “2 quickies’ but had forgotten the first question; somewhat embarrasing. There are performances I’d like to recoup from old files. I won’t open any that have samples, but what I’d like to do is revive some original performances from years ago. I tried that lately and of course all my user banks are different and many were rather ugly. So, If I backup present master settings (all file) and then open older files, save the performances to a USB, with the saved ALL PERFORMANCE file have the voices imported as well that were assigned to each performance? thank you again. |

Sorry, but “All Performance” files don’t exist. The reason they don’t is exactly the situation you’ve run into - that is, Performances are dependent on the location of the Voices the (up to) four Parts are based on. That isn’t a problem with Preset Voices since they’re in fixed locations and unedited, but of course User Voices could be anything and located anywhere in the four Banks. Therefore, in order to be assured of the proper relationship between Performances and the Voices they use, both Performance and Voice Banks have to be loaded. The two exist simultaneously only in an “All” (X3A) file. There is a way to work around this, although it’s somewhat convoluted. After the “All” file is loaded, Performances can be copied to Song or Pattern Mixings, and the Voices stored as Mixing Voices. Once that’s done, the Voices are integrated with the Mixing. Then each such Mixing can be loaded to any Song/Pattern location, and it won’t matter what’s in the User Voice banks. (See http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/motif_xf_the_mix_voice) Unfortunately, accomplishing this for several Performances found in various “All” files could take quite a bit of file juggling.

I hope that helps, rather than hinders. |

Outstanding! It certainly will be a help. I’ve never taken advantage of the many uses of the mixing voices and this sounds like it’ll do the trick. I only wanted to access perhaps a dozen of the original performances so it shouldn’t be too cumbersome.
You’ve provided a valuable service to so many persons over the years and I’m indebted to your passion for the Motif and your willingness to share your expertise. Thank you for all you do.....

Great - I’m glad you were able to find an approach that met your needs.

I know what you mean - I keep an ASCII USB keyboard connected all the time, via a 3-port hub so flash drives can still be connected as well.

Happy to assist, as always. |
