Hello,

I have a very basic objective and I can’t figure out how to do this.

Use Motif drum arpeggios in live performance.

The performance mode has only 4 parts. What I need is an intro drum groove and 3 main groves 3 fills and and ending.

Can this be done in the mix mode with each of the 1 to 16 parts used for recording the intros, main and fill grooves?

I need to be able to switch on press of a button.

If there a thread that has detailed this, please point me to it ‘cause I have searched high and low but I can’t find a solution.

You may find Pattern mode suits your needs - up to 16 Sections can be recorded. They can then be played by manually selecting them in any order, or chained if desired.

Thank you. I tried some things based on the suggestion in the link but I can’t make it work. Let me try and explain.

- In the Mix mode , selected Part 1 and pressed the edit button.
- On the ‘Voice tab’, set “Param. with Voice” = ON
- Selected ‘Power Standard Kit 1’ as voice.
- On the Arp Main tab, I selected Drum Arp #3844 as Arp 1, set switch and hold to ‘ON’ and timing to ‘measure’.
- Exited out to mix mode.

- In the mix mode, selected Part 2 and followed the exact same steps except that I selected Drum Arp #3845 on Arp 1.

I exited back to mix mode screen and selected part 1(first of the two parts I configured).

I pressed Arpeggio button and pressed a key on the keyboard to start Drum Arp #3844. Then I pressed track 2 button in the part select section(next to common edit button)

When selecting 2 , I expected the arp to change from 3844 to 3845 but that did not happen and 3844 continued playing.

I think I have a fundamental understanding issue and maybe just using Arp 1 on separate parts is not the right way.

Could you help me understand what I’m doing wrong? Is it possible to switch from part 1 to 2 and trigger the change in the drum arp so that I can program more than 5 transitions that are provided by the arps [1-5]?

Appreciate the help.

My suggestion was to record Arps to Sections in Pattern mode.

As an example, I’ve attached 70s Rock Arps Ptrn01.n3.X3A.zip. It’s a compressed “All” file which has every User location initialized except for Pattern 01. Only Track 1 is recorded, using Power Standard Kit 1 for Part 1. Sections A~H hold four-measure recordings of the eight “70s Rock” Arps, XF numbers 4515~4522. Pattern 01 can be loaded as Type “pattern” to whichever Pattern location on your XF you want. Once loaded, press [ â–º ](Play), then buttons [A] through [H].

Here’s how to create what I did…
Press [PATTERN], select a blank (cleared) one
1) Press [MIXING] > [EDIT] > [1] > [F1](Voice) > [SF1](Voice)
2) Set Param. with Voice “on”
3) Select the PDR Bank, Voice 001
4) Press [F2](ARP Main) > [SF1](ARP1)
5) Set Switch and Hold “on”, and Change Timing to “measure”
6) Press [ARPEGGIO ON/OFF], so that it’s “on”
7) Set Type to 4515, MA_70s_Rock
8) Press [A] SECTION button
9) Press [ * ](Record)
10) Set Key On Start “on(â–º)”, Loop “off”
11) Verify that Measure is set to “001 : 01” - reset if necessary
12) Press a key to start recording - it will record the default four measures (unless set otherwise), and return to the “Pattern Play” screen.
13) Press [STORE] to avoid accidentally losing anything.

To record additional Sections (B, etc.)…
Press [MIXING] > [EDIT], then repeat steps 7~13.
At step 7, select the next Arp.
At step 8, press [B], etc.

To play the recorded Arps…
Press [ARPEGGIO ON/OFF], so that it’s “off”
Turn Key On Start “off”
Press [ â–º ](Play), then buttons [A]~[H].

While the attached file has Arps recorded to only Sections A~H, the remaining Sections I~P could be similarly used.

I hope you find this helpful.

Much appreciated! I will give this a try.

I could not load the file that you attached. I copied the unzipped file to a usb drive and tried to load it. I got an error

“No Flash Memory Module installed or module is unformatted”.

Did you try to load the entire file as Type “all”? If so, don’t do that.

As I posted above…
Pattern 01 can be loaded as Type “pattern” to whichever Pattern location on your XF you want.

See page 246 of the XF Reference Manual for details of loading a single Pattern from an “All” file.
