I have FMXpanded sound library but they are only EP’s and Clav sounds. Yamaha made for Zampler RX great free DX1/5 and DX7 samples in SFZ format. Any idea how to transfer them to MOXF.

As to converting SFZ to something usable with a Motif:
SFZ files should be able to be converted to SF2…
Note that certain features of SFZ might be lost in conversion to SF2, and the above is in theory - I haven’t tried it myself. |

OK, I verified that what I suggested does work.
I downloaded this SFZ file:
I then used the Polyphone program (in my case the 32-bit version, in Windows XP) to convert to SF2. Finally, I used “Import Waveforms...” in the Melas Waveform Editor (demo version) on the SF2, and it can be played with a mouse or a connected Motif. Since I only have the demo, I can’t save the result for direct use on the Motif, but I’ll leave that as an exercise for those who purchase(d) the Melas product. |

The SFZ format contains a .sfz text file and the associated audio files (which can be WAV, but also AIFF, MP3, etc., are possible). The text file can include information about key mapping, envelopes, filters, and several other attributes. The advantage of converting SFZ to SF2 is that instead of just having a collection of WAVs (or others), you wind up with a multisample properly mapped across the keys and having other attributes defined in the .sfz text. Of course, the SFZ files can be played without conversion. Free players are available online. |
