Which Operating System (firmware) version is installed in the XS8? Exactly which FW driver (version number) are you trying to install? |

The most recent firmware for the XS is version 1.60. It adds new features and has several fixes over version 1.56. You might want to install it.
XS OS v1.60:
Did you ever update the IEEE1394 firmware to version 1.07?
Also, some FireWire chipsets are not properly compatible with the interface in the XS8. |

Yes...i ve the the most recent firmware 1.07 installed....and the card has an “ allowed” chip from TI....The Xs wakes up in FW mode. The problem occurs bevore I connect the XS...so it has to be a problem within the computer. |

OK on the 1.07 IEEE1394 firmware and TI FW chipset.
I presume those entries are:
If so, before trying to fix that…

...you should probably determine if the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller entries with yellow symbols are related to the problem. I suggest that you uninstall the Yamaha Steinberg FW driver, reboot the computer, and check the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller entries again. If you still see yellow symbols, what are those entries? Post a screen capture if you can. |

There might be a driver conflict. First, if your computer has a FW port on the motherboard, make sure it’s disabled in the BIOS setup. Otherwise, using the Legacy driver for the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller might help. See https://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/Firewire-1.htm |

Ready for Win 10, but not ready for the IEEE1394 driver that Microsoft provides with Windows 10? Â ;-)

You’re welcome. I’m unlikely to be visiting Germany, but thanks for the invitation. Your English is certainly good enough to communicate, even without alcohol.
Let’s see what I remember of German…
I hope I didn’t make too many mistakes. |
