Hi I have upgraded my system and have gone from PC to Mac because of the XS firewire connection situation.

I now have the Firewire 800 to 400 pin adaptor and thunderbolt adaptor ready to go.

Do I need a separate midi interface component or can I plug the XS via thunderbolt directly into the Mac ?
I have Cubase 8.5. I ask is I am having issues getting it all working right .
I have the UAD Apollo Twin . Can I use that for midi or is it just audio ?
I feel so ignorant.
Look forward to anyone help
Cheers,
Skybo

The FW connection carries both audio and MIDI.

No, it does not have MIDI...audio only.

Use the FW connection for the XS itself (MIDI and audio) and use the Apollo for microphones or other instruments. If you won’t be using mikes and other instruments, just return it to the dealer.

Hi Again,
Firstly, so appreciative that I can turn to this Forum
Where I live there is no-one to talk to about this’ stuff and I am not tech savvy AT ALL ! I need to understand routing and settings and I don’t yet. Any suggestions where I can learn this is appreciated. I find the XS Manual very hard to comprehend and follow

So here we go:
I need help knowing how to set up my connections so the XS and Cubase are communicating
I have not yet even tackled integrating the UAD Apollo Twin

To recap:
I have Motif XS 8
Cubase 8.5
Firewire 800 to 400 pin to Thunderbolt port on Macbook Pro
UAD Apollo Twin

What Settings do I need to have on the Motif and on Cubase...mostly on Cubase I think ?

Issues :

1...When I open Cubase and I chose the “Recording” template
I chose Yamaha Motif XS 8 with VST Editor

Firstly… Good idea or no ?

I… I can record MIDI on the first track
A...the 2nd MIDI track and B...but then cannot hear the 2nd MIDI track
C...Play audio track and nothing is recorded

Cubase cinques with the Motif and these are the settings VST Connections:
Device -
INPUT :  Motif XS AD Input Motif XS 13 and 14 ( why them and not Main L&R;? )
OUTPUT:Motif XS 8 Main L& R

Devices to Device Set Up
MIDI PORT Set up
MIDI in Main and Remote are Active
MIDI OUT XS MIDI Out INACTIVE / Main Active /Remote Active

What should it be ?

If I create a New Project and don’t use the template and choose
EMPTY and got to Devices to VST Instruments to External and add the XS the settings that come up are the same
I can hear 2 different MIDI tracks but AUDIO won’t record

I imagine its all simple but I just haven’t gotten it yet ?

I look forward to any help

Cheers
