Hi there everybody, I am doing a duo with a singer and we are doing a lot of synth-based material from the eighties. At the moment I am working on the backing track for the classic eighties hit “Take On Me”. At the start of the song the drums come in first, then some synth-type bells and strings, then a DX/FM Bass Sound comes in. I’m fussy and I’m having trouble getting it that sound right, getting it sounding authentic. Apparently it’s the “Bass 1” Patch from the Yamaha DX7. This sound was used for SOOOO many songs in the eighties.. Has anybody created a really good simulacrum (simulation) of this sound for the MOTIF XF8 that they can share? Alternatively, I would appreciate any pointers on how to re-create that sound from scratch using the MOTIF’s internal Oscillators/Waves.
Regards,

That DX sound and many others from the ‘80s are found in the
There’s even a Performance with a split set up for Take On Me. See http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/478635/
EDIT: Apparently the suggestion to purchase that library has already been made to you…

Hi 5pinDIN, Thanks for your reply. I did purchase 80s Pop/Rock Soundset, Volume 1. While it’s very good indeed, it doesn’t cover every sound used on every song it covers. Unfortunately it doesn’t include the DX7 Bass Sound I seek.
