Hi Fromby, After your factory reset ensure you go back and put the correct settings and store them, otherwise they will be lost on reboot. Firewire settings should be as follows:-
Press Utility > F1 (General) >Set the IEEE1394 driver to FW
Utility > F5 (Control) > Set the Interface midi in/out to MLAN
That should be the settings on the XS.
Hope it helps.

The driver you installed won’t work correctly with FW until the IEEE1394 firmware is updated to version 1.07.
Â
You could try downloading it from:
Once unzipped, read and carefully follow the instructions in Update_mac_en.pdf. Note that the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver must be properly installed in order for the IEEE1394 updater to run.
If you still have a problem…

Should I uninstall Yamaha Stainberg FW driver? And start installation from IEEE1394 updater?

Be sure the driver you installed is correct for the OS version on your Mac.
Please read the instructions in Update_mac_en.pdf.
If you follow the instructions, there shouldn’t be a problem doing the update. If you still aren’t successful, I suggest that you contact Yamaha Support in your country. |

You have apparently installed the correct YSFW driver for the Mac OS you’re running. To verify, go to System Preferences on the Mac, and look for the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver. If not there, the driver isn’t installed. If there, make sure the proper version is listed under the “About” tab. Please also read for_MOTIF_XF_user_en.pdf in the for_MOTIF_XF_user folder. It has a Setting up on the computer section. With XS OS 1.60 (or OS 1.50), and a properly functioning mLAN16E2 (or FW16E), you should be able to go to [UTILITY] > [F1](General) > [SF4]{Auto Load) and set IEEE1394 Driver = FW.
Â
I suggested that because failed installation of the FW update can sometimes damage the mLAN16E2. |

I uninstalled all applications and drivers (excluding Yamaha firmware) and started from scratch.
1. Yamaha Steinberg FW driver. There is a result in attachment.

I see IEEE1394 driver as a mLAN. Is it the same? |
