If you press [FILE] > [F6]FLASH, what are the numbers (in MB) next to “Free”? |

I’ll check tomorrow when I’ve got the keyboard set up at the studio. Keep in mind I loaded a whole load of stuff on to the flash last weekend so there won’t be much free space on it! |

OK, thanks.

That doesn’t matter. I’m primarily interested in what’s displayed after the “/” (slash) - it’s the total capacity of the flash module after formatting. |

well, mine’s not empty anymore but I think this tells you what you want Free 1.4GB / 2.0 GB |

I would say mine is going to be the same in that case, in terms of what is after the “/” |

The after is total capacity, the before is the amount free. I have about 600k loaded As to your duplicate voice thing, did you get Melas library manager? I’d use that instead off all files. If you use an all file, you want to load withou samples or you might duplicate the waveforms |

I do have Melas Total Librarian as well as the Waveform Editor. This was the first time I had loaded anything onto the flash board so I had to load “with waveform” when using the .X3A. The Melas Total Librarian data can only be uploaded over MIDI and I don’t have space at home at the moment to set up the MOXF8, let alone hook a computer up to it. So for me it is easier to load from USB flash drive when I am at the rehearsal studio I hire, both for my own needs and that of the band. Only the voices were duplicated, when I created the .X3A file in the Waveform Editor I didn’t notice my mistake. There were no unused or duplicate waveforms in the finished .X3A I loaded into the MOXF8. I am very new to all of this and I have not yet got my head around how you would use the Melas Librarian in conjunction with the Waveform Editor to load into the MOXF8 without making a complete mess of things. I need to walk before I run :) |

Thanks for that information.
It’s interesting the MOXF with the Mutec FMC-07 (2 GB) displays that.
What’s strange is that Yamaha claimed a maximum of a 1 GB (1024 MB) flash module could be used, and with that the free and total amounts are displayed in MB. It’s certainly not important, but I wonder why with the Mutec module the display is in GB, and with only one significant figure after the decimal point. If formatting is consistent with the smaller Yamaha modules, the 2.0 GB displayed might be 2046.5 MB, or it might be 2000 MB (the way hard drives are typically speced), or perhaps something else. As to the rapid formatting in comparison to my XF experience, it might be that the MOXF initially does just a very low-level format, and that when data is loaded higher level formatting is done. That could explain the apparently longer than expected (in comparison to an XF) load times. Well, at least if the questions come up again, typical answers for the MOXF are now available. It’s too bad that Mutec didn’t seem interested in commenting about any of this. |

I just formatted my muted fmc-07. It had about 400 MB full. I didn’t time it. It took longer than 10 min, less than 30 min. … My guess: flash card formatting time is related to how much is loaded on it. My guess is that, first, the content has to be deleted; and that consumes the bulk of the time, when there’s content loaded. |

As an aside, as the MOXF was designed to accept only 512 and 1024 MB, I wonder if the Motif XF would accept 2 x 2gig Mutec flash extension boards and how much extra data would it hold? |

Yes, 2 x 2GB will work in the XF. See http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/474484/ |

Correct. On a MOXF, formatting an “empty” 2G flashboard will take about 26 secs only while formatting a “fully loaded” 2G board will take almost up to an hour as reported here already.
As 5pinDIN pointed out, it will work. The limitations per equipped flashboard are always the same, regardless which kind of flashboard you are using and in which synth it will be installed. Per flashboard you have the following limitations:
2048 Waveforms max.

A fully loaded Mutec 2GB actually takes around 3.5 hours on an MOXF, as per my post earlier the thread… |

I don’t agree. Formatting a fully loaded 2G flashboard doesn’t take that long. I just experienced a maximum of one hour waiting time which matches more or less with 5pinDIN’s provided information:
Moxfman, maybe you’re mixing that up with the duration which is required to load/save a 2GB large X6A file back to/from the MOXF. That can really take that long, as you can learn a new language in the meantime… |

Formatting the “empty” Mutec 2GB took a matter of 26 seconds but of course if it’s already fully loaded it will probably be closer to an hour (not 26 seconds or 3.5 hours), as both you and 5pinDIN can attest! |
