Story:

I have two S90ES (one for house/programing, one for band trailer).  I absolutely love the main piano samples and keybed action of these units.  I also have two Motif XS6 (one for house/programing, one for band trailer) , which I use for sequence playback and some performances in conjunction with the S90ES as main controller thru midi.  I also use live, a Nord C1 organ (again, if you don’t play well for God’s sake have good sounding equipment).

In my duo I do ALL my own setting up.  I am older than dirt.  I am tired of three keyboards every gig.

After saving for a year I recently got a good deal on a used XF8.  My theory was to load my XS in to the XF and get rid of one S90 and one XS6.  I have installed flash in the XF, purchased my third set of editors from John Melas and am in process of converting over to the XF8.

I am slightly disappointed in the piano sounds.  The S90ES is so realistic to me.  I have selected the “Natural Grand S6” and compared directly to the S90es.  I was under the impression they are the same waveforms?  They don’t come close to me.  I thought when the XS came out there were so many complaints that Yamaha gave out the waveforms for loading and I thought that was the Natural Grand S6 in the XF.  I am playing through the same mixer and speakers, side by side.  I have changed the “touch” to soft for the keybeds.  I understand the “aural"/tactile perception possibility, but they don’t sound/feel the same at all.  I even tried the XF to one of my computer based Steinway grands, and it didn’t “sound” right to me either...leading me to think it is a perception problem.  Any input?  Are the S90es piano samples out there for download?  Am I crazy?

Do you know about the S700 Piano free piano sounds from Yamaha? They are in the Inspiration In A Flash sound pack. They are also here: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/main/comments/xspand_your_world_content_updated_with_new_free_downloads/. The S700 is on the S90ES, right?

Hope This Helps!

Choice of piano sound is a personal one, and needs often change with application, so I don’t make recommendations. Have you tried these free libraries?…

By the way, Inspiration in a Flash also includes PowerGrand and JazzGrand from the Classic Motif.

Many, many thanks, will get these loaded and report back.  I knew I had these somewhere (inspiration in a flash).  For some reason the S600 was what I thought they were called!
