On my S70XS it seems like all the cello patches have vibrato built into the waveform. I can’t see that the LFO is in use at all, and I can’t seem to find a cello waveform that doesn’t start warbling after a second or two of play.

Is that right? Surely the designers wouldn’t build vibrato into the waveforms with such a capable LFO available.

Is there a cello patch or waveform on the unit (or a programming technique) that would give me a straight pitch so I can use the mod wheel/LFO to introduce vibrato when I want it?

The cello waveforms (416~427) are shown on page 29 of the S90XS/S70XS Data List (http://download.yamaha.com/file/9637). There don’t appear to be any that are free of vibrato. When vibrato isn’t part of the sample, it’s usually indicated as “Non-Vib” - see those for violin (386~391) on the same page.

That’s helpful, thank you. “Non-vib” is pretty obvious, had I known to look for it on the data list, but I’ve always been rather puzzled by all the waveform variations and abbreviations and have never gotten into the habit of checking the data list.
