New to the Motif & Controller. I have a Motif Rack XS, Novation Impulse 61 controller (because also play wind synth through Rack XS). How do I split the controller keyboard and play, for example, Bari Sax sound in lower keys, and Brass/Horns in upper keys? Then save it and recall setting using Novation Impulse? |

Welcome to the forum. Layers and splits are done via Multi mode in the Rack XS. Typically, both of the Parts (Voices) would be set to the same MIDI Receive Channel.
For splits:
For layers:
STORE the edited Multi. Recalling the Multi with your controller would be determined by how that controller operates. |

Thanks SpinDIN. I appreciate your quick response and direction. I will start working through and experimenting with it. Reading a ton of material and watching videos (my head is about to explode), I’m learning my Midi Controller (and controllers in general) is more designed to control a DAW than a sound module like a XS (at least the one I chose), from a UI standpoint. It appears my primary control of sound selection, split, etc., will continue to be from the front panel of the XS, unless I chose to hook up a laptop, iPad with App, etc., to command the XS from a different UI (e.g. as the aforementioned). |

Hi redbone,
I have previously used Novation Impulse 49 with Motif Rack XS. I sad previously, since I have sold it and bought MOXF6.

Alex, this is great! Thanks so much for taking the time to post this. Honestly, I’m not familiar with mapping, templates, what they do, what they are for and how they work. I’m a blank slate on that. If you can direct me to a beginners link I’d love to learn about it. I do have, and record with, Logic Pro X, so if a DAW is needed to “map” the Impulse, I have that capability, just not the understanding or knowledge yet. |

Redbone,
It is not so difficult. Mapping mean that all your buttons and pots on keyboard correspond to your software (Logic Pro X). When you make some changes or create custom mappings to the particular software (VST),
