Hey Guys,
For the past few months I’ve recorded some compositions off of the pattern mode on the xs8 and my first question is basic.
The last time I tried, I recorded the composition as an XOE file at first, and when that failed, I tried saving it as a Midi file afterwards and both file types did not run properly on cubase 4.1.2..however the midi file format ran on quicktime but the quality was terrible. Instruments could not be heard and there was no bass. Let it be known we use a macbook pro from 2007. I don’t know if this is a factor but, I compose and record using a simple set of headphones right now. I was thinking perhaps it’s the soundcard of the computer? So my second question is why was it terrible and what are some of the factors that affect the quality of playback? I simply want it to sound professional as it was designed to be. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

MIDI is just MIDI. When you playback a MIDI file in Quicktime, it just plays the notes from the MIDI file using it’s own sounds...it will not reproduce the Motif sounds!!! As far as Cubase, you can record audio from the Motif into Cubase which can then be burned to a CD. If you have sample RAM installed in your Motif you can resample your music, then export that sample as a WAV file to your computer for playback or to burn a CD. If you can be a bit more clear about exactly what you’re trying to accomplish, we can describe the specific steps to follow to get the job done. |

Thanks for the reply. I want to take what i’ve recorded on the motif and transfer it to my computer so I can play it back and listen to it off my computer. How do I do this properly? That’s my question. Your solution is to save it as a wav file on the ram and do it like that? |

You can do so using the Motif XS’s AUDIO RECORD/PLAYBACK feature added in a recent update.
All that is required is a USB drive that you can plug into the TO DEVICE port on the Motif XS8
Connect the USB stick to the Motif XS
The time remaining on your drive will be counted down (maximum record time is 74 min 00 sec When complete press STOP. |

How do I simply take what I’ve recorded on the xs8 and transfer it to the computer and have it playback my music exactly as it was recorded.
Being new to the XF, I just tried this and it worked flawlessly! Nice..

Are you listening to the XF and Logic over the same playback system? Check your cabling and make sure you don’t have L and R backwards somewhere. |

I recorded the wave in the XF and transferred it to my software (Logic).
No, my speakers and headphones are setup correctly and producing the same results?
