Hello:

Reading the “What’s new” section, there is a new feature (or fixed feature) called “Fixed SD/BD for Drum-Arpeggios”.

After reading it for a while, I can’t completely understand what this function really does.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance,
Alex.

I read that as you can “fix” the Bass Drum and Snare Drum samples in a kit but “change” the other percussion sounds around it.  Say you find a Kick and Snare that you LOVE, but you want to swap the cymbals and/or hand percussion for something else… this feature would allow for you to do it.

Of course, I could be waaaaaay off here.  It has been known to happen. :)

Here is a snippet of the doc as a point of reference for others to interpret:

Fixed SD/BD for Drum-Arpeggios
This parameter is available only for Drum Voices and can be found in the EDIT mode ([F3] > ARP OTHER). If this parameter is turned on, “D1” is used as the note for the snare drum and “C1” as the note for the bass drum in the Arpeggio playback, even if another assignment is programmed in the Drum Arpeggio. So if you want to play multiple Drum Arpeggios with a certain Drum Kit, this parameter ensures that the same basic sounds for kick and snare are used.

Many of the drum arpeggios contain note data that point to alternate Kicks and Snares.  So you find two grooves that you really like and want to use together in a Voice or Performance, but when you switch between the two arps the snare and kick sound changes because the Arp note data has different kick and snare assignments.

The Fixed SD/BD is a filter that forces the arp data to the same kick and snare notes so any of the thousands of drum arps will work effectively together.

It signifcantly increases the compatibility of the drum arps especially when combining between different styles (for example house, hiphop and funk drum arps).

Hope that explanation helps and if you have further questions, let us know.

Thank you Athan!

Does it increase the compatibility only with kicks and snares or also with toms, hats, crash, etc?

In a typical drum kit, there is only one set of toms and cymbals so they work fine.  However in most Motif drum kits there are 4 or 5 different kicks and snares which is why this feature is a nice addition.
