It would get a terrible grade for “lack of effort”. 3 years in the making...it managed to come up with bigger ROM samples and 25% more User Ram. Wow! A MNC Conglomerate with 3 years managed to do the most minimal thing possible to still call it an upgrade. If the XF has the same life span, it’ll be 6 years of basically the same exact product (XS/XF). They just want to amortize whatever little R&D;they spend over as long a time as possible. I remember when Yamaha had ground breaking and unique products—like the DX7. Like the VL1. Not anymore. Now it’s just coast as far as possible selling variants of what they had before, at as high a price point as possible from what I see. Funkster |

Maybe true, but many are going to want to read that paper and make their own story from it. Good luck Yamaha. |

Wow, Funkster, what an amazing observation. Except, it sounds familiar somehow. Oh yeh, that’s right. You already told me in your other 10 threads. Still, I don’t think I understand you exactly. Maybe start another 10, just to be on the safe side. It will take at least 10 before I hear all of the words, and another 10 before the concept starts to register. Keep going, though. I know we’re real slow here, but we get things, eventually. Anyone think that these clowns work for some other synth company? I mean, they don’t even own a Motif, it sounds like they don’t plan to buy a Motif, yet, here they are, day after day, thread after thread, spending their lives posting the same thing over and over. Maybe it’s some weird sort of anti-marketing astroturfing? Like, when the new Kurzweil synth comes out, Nord pays a bunch of people to post the same messages over and over to the Kurz forums about how the product sucks, so that new users will come in and see nothing but complaints. Even if half the threads and messages in the forum are written by three guys, maybe the newbies won’t notice so much. It has to be something like that. I mean, I can believe that people like Funkster and Radurobert think the XF is terrible for them, and won’t buy it. I can even believe that they’d be upset, like a kid that didn’t get the toy that they wanted on Christmas morning, and would want to let off some steam on the forums. However, they know it is impossible for the hardware to change until the next Motif comes out, and so, even if the CEO of Yamaha was reading here, and was persuaded that their comments must be acted upon, it still would be years before the next generation of synth was ready. So, they spend day after day posting on a forum, angrily bashing a machine that they don’t ever intend to buy, and that can’t be changed for years, at the earliest. I can imagine them at work, signing in during lunch to complain about that thing that they won’t buy. Then, as soon as they get home, it’s back on the forums to keep investing time in to complaining about a product that they never plan to purchase. Who wastes that much time? If they bought it and felt let down, then maybe they’d be upset every day. They don’t even own it. Don’t plan to own it. Don’t want it. |

I’m not a shill for any company. I work for myself. I own an XS. I paid for it. My opinions are my opinions. I don’t think the XF is “terrible” for me but I don’t see how it’s going to do much to make me want to upgrade to it. Sure it simplifies patch management, but I’m using VSTi’s to solve that issue. It has a better analog section, but I run SPDIF out on my Motif so I don’t use the analog section. If the XF had features I felt I needed or wanted, I would buy it, it’s just that simple. It has 2GB of flash, hey that’s great, I can get an 8 GB quadcore at bestbuy for $549. That’s what the reality is like for a lot of people. Would I want 2GB of flash ram for $600 or a whole computer for the same price? I can see why Yamaha gets upset but who are you? Are you a shill for yamaha protesting in disguise? Do you own an XF? Do you own an XS? Why get so upset about what some random person on the internet says about some random product? I’m not angrily bashing; I’m pithy and sarcastic but I’m not boiling in anger. Most of my suggestions are software which is changable. There is a huge difference between Radu/Foleycore and myself. Maybe if I’m upset at anything I’m upset at seeing the end of the workstation, that point where it just isn’t worth it to keep plowing down the outboard gear path and that I have to get on track with VSTis and quick. So I saw the future and didn’t like the train I was on.
When I started with VSTis computers jsut didnt have the power to do it compared to hardware synths. I think the tide has changed 180o since then.

It’s not the parts: it’s how you make them work together.

Was that a FUD attempt? My computer works fine thanks. I leave my Motif powered on 24x7...so no need for flash. It wastes power but only 30 watts...like a night lite. F |

This was a typical example of “I don’t need it, so you don’t need it”.

No it isn’t. That’s an example of you projecting. Some people need flash—if I go on stage and don’t want to wait for load times. But if it’s parked in a studio I don’t need flash. Just because I don’t need it (now) doesn’t mean noone else needs it. Projections like you are making sound like arrogant presumptions that you know more about me than I do. If they put in features that maybe 20% of the market wants/needs, they can’t be too upset when the other 80% don’t upgrade. F |

And an ever weaker response. Back it up? You were so staggered for a response you couldn’t even manage a JOOP! I’ll take it as a win. F |

My arguments are well reasoned and backed up with extensive explanation. Calling someone a troll when you are losing an argument doesn’t cut the mustard. F |
