I bought my XS7 at Fullcompass for $2,500.00 two years ago. Why would I spend $3,904.15 for the XF7, that is $1,400 more just for the Flash thing ??? which is the main feature.

I would prefer waiting until midway through 2012 to see if the XF7 price has dropped enough for me to consider because I don’t think the XS7 will be obsolet not even then.

Saying this from an economic point of view and thinking do I really need the XF7 right now ??????

I’m looking at it this way. The XF8 is $3500 + $870(FW card and 2 Flash cards) thats $4370 for a loaded XF. Realistically, how much will a used XS8 sell for? $2400 at the most, lets say $2370 for simplicity. That means a buyer looking to upgrade his XS8 to a XF8 will have to cough up $2000. Thats about (20) band gigs for me.

The cost to upgrade, realistically, is significant. I’d rather buy a CP300 with that money, and have (2) great boards.

This will not happen… actually just the opposite happened to the XS. The price went up $300 in 2009 with the XS

You’re paying for twice the ROM-size compared to the XS, not to mention the ability to have 2 gigs of waveforms instantly accessible.

That’s almost 3 GB of waveform data, which is nothing less than huge!

You can’t expect that to be handed to you for free. (Although that would be nice!)

(And for all of you that rant about how computers can load x number of gigabyte sounds: it ain’t about the sample size, it’s about the programming. I used to have the S90ES which had a 54 megabyte piano that was gorgeous.)

Granted, I’m not upgrading from the ES or the XS (although I’ve owned both), but I am seriously tempted to get the XF.

I don’t denie that the XF7 has all this capacity like 2 gigs of waveforms data and the3GB of waveform data etc etc.

But in a marketing poing of view it’s the same as when the XS came out, people where saying why to buy the XS if the ES had this and that etc etc, and Yamaha was waying the xs has all of this compare to the ES etc etc. Exactly same thing will hapen in 2013 or before, when the XF succesor comes out.

In my particular case if I had lots of money and space yeah I would buy the XF, but right now I lack both.

Huge is such a relative term. For a hardware synth perhaps, that’s barely the size of my Scarbee Bass…

Also, it still amazes me that everyone here starts their discussion from the suggested retail price. Apparently, I need to start working in a music store…

I would dream of paying more than $3000 for a XF8 out the box… Perhaps, $3500 or $3600 for the Flash Cards

$600? Well good because thats how much they are retailing for. The XF8 also will need a FW16e that is solid retailing at $270. So there is the $870 as I mentioned above. Getting the XF for $500 less street pricing would be impressive. Let us know if you have any success

"wouldnt" I assume you mean.

FYI come to think of it, I paid $3000 for my XS8 in early 2009 coincidentally at a guitar center which was on a weekend sale for $300 off the retail price at that time was $3299.

Your right! I did mean, ‘wouldn’t’. But I bought my XS8 for several hundred less than $3000. However, it may have retailed for a little less then…
