Hi,
I recently purchased Chicken System Translator and am using build 123. I tried converting ILIO’s World Winds AKAI S3000 CD
1. The keymappings to what samples to play were messed up.
Is it typical for ChickenSys Translator to mangle the patches this badly (basically requiring at least an hour of work per patch and hours to figure out what’s going wrong in each patch)? I’m thinking the time isn’t worth it, and I should just buy a software sampler that’s compatible with AKAI S3000 instead. In addition ChickenSys was crashing all over the place, practically every 3 minutes, it even crashed while browsing the help file. Anyone out there with ChickenSys experience that may be able to help? Best Regards, Jonathan |

I tested the translator at a friends place and also come up with a strange problem. All voices I convert from another source to X0V come out with at least 3 times the size. And most of the time I cannot load the X0V file on my XS8 or the voice does not make any sound at all. As it doesn’t seem possible to load samples with the XS editor, and the Chicken editor is not released yet, it’s kinda hard to see what goes wrong. I really hope that the final product is better, as I would really want to buy the editor/translator set from Chicken. |

I think the reason the samples end up being larger than the original is because it generates one .x0v per patch. So if there are shared waveforms and keybanks, it replicates the same data in the next .x0v patch. I did figure out one fix for what was happening. It looked like whenever there were overlapping keybanks, it would create another waveform on a new element. Since there are only 8 elements on the motif xs it quickly ran out of elements. I had to copy keybanks from all the extra elements onto one element and that fixed the problem with missing keybanks. To do this I went into “Integrated Sampling” and looked at the waveform data, then I used the “Job” button and selected “Move” and moved each keybank from the unnecessary additional waveforms all into a master waveform for the patch. I think I might try to post a message on ChickenSys’ forum about this issue and see if that can fix it in the Translator. It seems like right now, ChickenSys is the only translation option that I know of for the Motif XS and it’s got a ways to go. Best regards, Jonathan |

i use awave to convert my akai libraries for the motif xs6.
i have tested chickensys but the samples were mono or interlaced and i had different problems with this software ... no problem on this with awave. give it a try - there is a testversion. you can only convert 1 library, then you have to restart the tool.

Hi Quest, Thank-you very much for the suggestion. I tried out AWave and sure enough, it did a much better job than Chicken Sys! Thanks again for the suggestion. There are still some kinks to work out, but it definitely workable now. =) |
