I have a solo piano track that I want to save as a stereo (two-track)MIDI file. The original Motif ES8 recording in song mode has two extra tracks. One was to add an extra piano bass in a build-up part, and the other one I added for a few missed notes. Now my question: Is there a way to combine these four tracks into a two-track stereo MIDI file? I hope I explained this correctly. Thanks for your help! Best, John |

You can use the Song Job MIX TRACK to achieve this. [F5] TRACK, Job 03. This Job mixes all data from two selected tracks (“A†and “Bâ€), and places the result in track B. So because you have three tracks to mix you will need to perform the operation twice. Manual page 232. Peter |

What I wanted to know with the “stereo MIDI file” reference, was when tracks are combined, then made into a MIDI file, will all the original panning be intact when the MIDI file is played back on a MIDI player. Probably sounds funny to savvy techies, but I’m just trying to comprehend the entire MIDI/ DAW concept. Again, thanks for all the help I’ve been getting here. Maybe it’s my avatar? Hmmm… Best, John |

John, when I gave my reply earlier, I decided to ignore the point about a stereo MIDI file! However, as it has been raised, there is really no such thing as a stereo MIDI file. The “original panning” is part of the MIX parameters, not the MIDI file as such. More than that you probably want to read up on MIDI, there’s lots of info around and it’s not really too complicated. You should be aware to make difference between MIDI and audio. Only audio file could be Stereo or mono, but MIDI is file only containing commands that triggers your instrument what to play (voices, notes, velocity, pan, volume, etc.). Original panning will be intact if it exist in MIDI file, also instruments (find Program Change or PC command in MIDI file). Alex |
