hi everybody, im new to the motif but am learning more and more about it everyday. When I create performances and patterns I’d like to save them, but i understnad that if I save it to the keyboard they will be lost once it is turned off. So I bought a Scandisk 2 gig USB flashdrive because I thought that I could save to it, but when I insert it and then press file, my whole keyboard freezes up and I have to turn it off. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need to play live and its killing me! |

Welcome. Patterns and Performances will NOT be lost on power down. They are maintained in non-volotile memory. So, that’s not an issue. It’s only samples that are stored in volotile RAM and lost upon reset. A 2GB SANDISK should be okay. I’m wondering if there was some software on the USB key and the system is thinking… I use three different memory sticks, from different manufacturers without incident, so must be some minor glitch. Test for you… Does the USB key work properly in your PC? If okay in your PC, it won’t hurt to format it with XP OS. |

Yo! I am assuming you mean a MO6/8 and not a Motif Classic, ES, or XS… (if not, give the appropriate forum a shot because they might know better than MO6/8 peoples) I cannot speak to your specific flash drive problem there… sorry Just so you know if you are only saving MO6/8 data you prob don’t need a USB drive that big… the file sizes are tiny, so you could save some money getting a smaller one. I have a USB that I dedicate for use with my MO8. The bigger USB drive will allow you to put other kinds of large files on there too, but I prefer to keep things simple so I don’t mess up my data somehow. But I guess 2GB was prob not that expensive anyway. I use a cheap Kingston Data Traveler 512MB. Someone gave me a few for free. No problems yet. I guess I would say try returning it if you can and try something else. |

This is only true for performances on MO6/8. Songs and Patterns will be lost if not saved to USB and MO6/8 has no sampling capability.

Check your Sandisk USB flash on a computer (or look at the packaging it came in) and you’ll probably find it has “U3” software installed on it. This stuff is meant to run small utility programs on a computer when the USB drive is inserted but it locks up the MO. You can download a removal tool at U3.com (and probably at other places too) and that should fix the problem. I have 2 gig and 512 meg sandisk drives and both work once the U3 stuff is gone. Kevin |

Kevin,
Agree on the U3. I also didn’t see I was in a MO6/MO8 forum. My bad.
You are correct. My thinking was XS specific with respect to Song/Patterns. |
