I am attempting to use the Motif ES in multi timbral mode in either song mode or pattern mode. This would be to perform live without using the sequencer. I have two keyboards.
Keyboard 1 is the Motif ES
The song has voices in parts 1 through 8. Parts 1 through 4 are set to receive on midi channel 2. These parts are the thre keyboard voices with a low volume string voice. Parts 5 and 6 are horn section voices. Set to receive midi channel 1. Parts 7 and 8 are Harmonica voices. Set to receive midi channel 1. I want to play the keyboard parts on the midi controller and play either the horn or the harp parts (5,6 or 7,8) on the motif ES using the mute control to toggle (switch) between horns and harp. I seem to be able to get everything to work but once I save the motif seem to play all voices. Track voice is set to off for all tracks 1 - 16. (Is track voice only available in Pattern mode?) Track send is set to 1 for all tracks. I can store the file and the two machines will do what I need. Once I save the file on the motif ES the ES does not seem to recognize mute commands. I hope this information is enough to help you help me. |

Since you have a plan to drive voices placed in parts 1-4, the others you should set to different MIDI channels that coresponds to the particular part. For instance, part 5 is MIDI channel 5, part 6 is MIDI ch 6, etc.

Thanks for the response. The idea was to have voices 1 through 4 sound together played from the midi controller. Then to switch off between voices 5 and 6 (Horns) and 7 and 8 (Harp). Trying to play the KB parts for the tune “Will it go round in circles” by Billy Preston. So I need all four KB parts 1-4 to sound together and the horns and harp to come in when not muted. But it sounds like the mute control won’t work? |
