No response at all to the New York Times article? Could this forum possibly be more brain-dead? |

Brain Dead = Reading New York Times The New York Times deserves the fate its headed for simply due to the fact that it cannot leave its left-wing leanings off the front page. People who want and depend on unbiased news reporting don’t dig this, and they won’t read or buy it.....the only ones left (no pun intended) to read it are, as you aptly stated it, Scotch, the “Brain Dead”. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/07/the_rapid_decline_of_the_new_y.html |

You’re not just brain-dead, pal, you’re also completely off your rocker. The story in question is not the slightest bit political. (It also appeared in the New York Times Magazine, not the newspaper.) As it happens, however, the New York Times is the world’s best written, least biased, and most authoritative English newspaper, and your failure to appreciate this says quite a lot about you and nothing whatsoever about the paper. Try, try, try to focus on the story. |

If you hijack a thread that has nothing to do with new york times you might be brain-dead. :) |

Well OK. I’ll respond to the Bonobo article. In a similar study, women were presented with images of various types of men and their reactions to each were monitored and recorded. These tests were repeated over a 28 day period coincident with the test subjects’ menstrual cycles. The results were fairly consistent. During ovulation, women responded positively to images of ruggedly handsome men with strong physiques whereas when they were premenstrual, they responded favorably to an image of a man with a hatchet buried in his forehead… Told to me by a woman - honest! The decline in newspaper readership is across the board, regardless of the supposed “leanings” of newspapers. People simply aren’t reading newspapers like they used to. They’re getting their news elsewhere (online, or on cable). In fact we just cancelled our subscription to the L.A. Times - not because of its “leftist” editorial stance, but because we just don’t read it and it is less paper we have to recycle. Newspapers are going the way of the Betamax and 8-track tape. Except for online versions of them. There is no such thing as an unbiased news organization. That said, all of the news organizations run the same AP or Reuters stories. This is one of the longer running threads. My feeling is that the kissing girls avatar is a bit questionable, but I don’t find it offensive. I think the television ads for Warcraft” and similar blatantly violent video games are far worse. People being shot through the head, decapitated, gushing blood everywhere, that seems to cause less of a stir. |
