I’m using the motif rack XS editor inside the studio manager with Cubase AI 4, but when I open the program and try to make it go “online” I get a “time-out” error.
I instaled the usb midi driver and everything, but I can’t make it work… is there anybody that can help me?

I don’t know if this information helps, but I was using an mbox2 and I had some problems while trying to make it go “online” for some time, but after some struggle I managed to do it, but now I’m using an audiophile card, and things are a little bit more complicated

Any kind of help would be gratly appreciated

thx

We will make the following assumptions (since you did not provide the details):

_ You are using a WINDOWS XP computer
_ You downloaded and installed the appropriate Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver version 223 for XP
_ You are using Cubase AI4.5.2
_ You have Studio Manager version 2.3.0
_ You have Motif-Rack XS Editor verson 1.1.1 (we cannot tell you how many people download the Motif XS Editor by mistake… make sure you have the Rack XS Editor)!!!
_ Your Motif-Rack XS is set to MIDI IN/OUT = USB
Press [UTILITY]
Select MIDI
Press [ENTER]
Set MIDI IN/OUT = USB
Press [STORE]

_ We are also going to assume you have some kind of MIDI keyboard controller connected to the 5-pin MIDI IN jack on the back of the Motif-Rack XS (although you don’t say)…

When you launch Cubase AI4.5.2 go to DEVICES > STUDIO MANAGER and when you launch the Motif-Rack XS Editor:
Go to FILE > SETUP
Make sure the USB option is checked and that DETAIL = ON

MIDI Keyboard In = Yamaha Motif-R XS-3

PORT 1 = Yamaha Motif-R XS-1
PORT 4 = Yamaha Motif-R XS-4 ______ Yamaha Motif-R XS-4

Once the SETUP is configured bring the Editor ONLINE. Let us know

Thx, that part was confusing me because I was using a different setup with the mbox.
thx a lot

Yey! but now I have another problem, midi data is being trasfered, but when I play the keyboard it doesn’t make any sound, but when I click at the keyboard in the software it works.
I’m using my keyboard controller pluged on my soundcard mid in… these are my settings

MIDI Keyboard In = Delta AP midi

PORT 1 = Yamaha Motif-R XS-1
PORT 4 = Yamaha Motif-R XS-4 ______ Yamaha Motif-R XS-4

what should I do to get the sound when I play my kb controller?

thx in advance

in Cubase , for Voice mode, all voices go by default on Midi Chanel 1. so for midi channel 1 you have to select Midi Out the Motif XS Rack 1. In Multi, you have to select Midi In - your midi keyboard and Midi Out - the motif, for every Midi Channel you are using.

“I’m using my keyboard controller pluged on my soundcard mid in… these are my settings

If you are using your keyboard controller plugged into your soundcard, you must ensure that the host program (Cubase) can see your controller’s MIDI IN

Go to DEVICES > DEVICE SETUP… > MIDI > MIDI PORT SETUP
Make sure your Controller is the only item marked in the column labeled “In ALL INPUTS”

Then in order to play the Motif-Rack XS from your controller:
Go to PROJECT > ADD TRACK > MIDI
Set that MIDI track so that the MIDI IN is “All MIDI INPUTS”
Set the MIDI OUT to “Yamaha Motif-R XS-1”

Your controller is now mapped to play to play the Motif-Rack XS
