Using Cubase AI4 with and XS rack and M-audio controller wiht a laptop. Using midi backing tracks for live performances with a small band. Play with a Cubase project then have to close it and open a new one to go to the next song. Takes longer than I’d like as the project needs to open and also open the XS Editor file for my “mix”. Is there a way to transition from song to song within a set list more quickly or to create a set list somehow? |

In brief, no, Perhaps you are expecting a bit too much from a free version of a more powerful application that is not designed for that sort of thing? :) In any case, projects, by their very nature take time to load and unload, free up RAM etc., so ‘instant’ switches between numerous projects won’t work. You may also find with more complex projects that you may have to actually close Cubase and reopen it if you attempt to switch to another project that is just as complex. All the major DAWs are designed for use in recording environments, not generally in live performances...........frank |

Thanks. If anywhere in your answer implies that a purchased version would help, I am all for buying a version. |

An upgrade would not faciltate the type of operation you describe. It might even complicate it as more features were loaded. DAWs such as Cubase, Sonar and Logic are designed for recording, mixing and mastering....and they do that very well....but they are not really designed to use as you described. They certainly could be used in under ‘live’ conditions in some ways, depending on what someone was trying to do, but certainly not in a manner similar to presets on a synth. Cheerio..........frank |
