Viewing topic "‘Waveform Full’ alert on XF, can’t reload my backup thumb drive now!"

Today, I loaded some voices from the Inspiration in a Flash thumb drive into my XF. Previous to this, I saved an All File (X3A) to my thumb drive so I could revert back to my original settings/voices/favorites after I fooled around with the Inspiration voices. However, when I attempted to load my X3A back, I get a “waveform full” alert. I even did a factory reset, then tried to reload the X3A, but same error message. I guess I must have inadvertently loaded more of the same waveforms when I was using the Inspiration module. Anyway, I don’t know how to ‘clear’ my waveform memory now so it will again accept my backup X3A file. I also have 2G of Flash Module memory installed but the FL1 and FL2 says I have plenty of memory left there. So I assume the waveform full alert refers to the internal onboard non-volatile XF memory. I’m at a loss on how to proceed further.

If indeed you are trying to load to the USR memory, then you can clear it easily. One way is simply to power off the XF, then turn it back on - since the SDRAM is volatile, data in it is lost when not powered.

If you want to leave the XF on, then the Sampling Job [F3]Other - 02:Delete All will work. (This will not affect the FL1/FL2 contents, only what’s in SDRAM.) See pages 129 and 145 of the XF Reference Manual.

Were there Waveforms in USR memory when you saved the .X3A backup? What is the full name of the .X3A file, and how big is it?

I’ve tried both of these as well. Still, ‘Waveform Full alert when I attempt to load my X3A.

I don’t know if there were waveforms in the user memory when I save it. The file is named, FEB12 n3.X3A 6.6MB

The “.n3” indicates that there are no samples for FL1 or FL2 in the file. An “All"/.X3A file with no samples at all is about 2 MB, so there must be over 4 MB of User samples in your file. That normally wouldn’t be a problem in terms of size, since if the User SDRAM is empty it will hold up to 128 MB. However, there’s another limit - the User memory can only accommodate 128 Waveforms, even if they use less than 128 MB.

How are you setting the Load options…
USR > ???
FL1 > ???
FL2 > ???

TYPE all

USER>USER
FL1>FL1
FL2>FL2

The flash modules each have a capacity limit of 2048 Waveforms and 8192 samples. Even though you may have space free in MB for more samples, you have likely exceeded the Waveform limit for the modules, possibly by incorrectly loading files.

The first thing to do is to try loading your file this way…
USR > USR
FL1 > None
FL2 > None

If that works, you may need to clean up duplicate Waveforms in FL1 and/or FL2.

Your fix worked perfectly! WHAT would us quasi-newbies do without you, 5pinDIN?

I’m glad that resolved the problem. After all, I was once a “quasi-newbie” myself, and I’m still learning.  :-)

If you want to check for duplicate waveforms, see the section Increasing the available memory of the Flash Memory Expansion Module on page 15 of the Motif XF Supplementary Manual (https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/4/325614/motifxf_v150_en_nf_c0.pdf).
