After upgrading to Logic X the USB midi doesn’t seem to work right with the Motif. I can see midi data coming into Logic but it is not passed to the output. This is only on port 1 of the 4 midi ports. The other 3 passes it through, but nothing triggers the Motif’s sound engine no matter what I do. Midi data are recorded into Logic - and if I connect the Motif via a midi cable to my Unitor midi interface - everything works. It seems to be the USB driver from Yamaha. I have the latest (1.9.9 I think).

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Kim

Which Mac OS are you running?
Exactly which USB driver did you install?

Osx 10.10.5 Yosemite

yamaha steinberg usb driver v. 1.9.9

I started out with a usb driver version1.8.2 I think and upgraded through several versions to try and fix this. The latest I could find is 1.9.9 - and it didn’t make a difference

Osx 10.10.5 Yosemite

yamaha steinberg usb driver v. 1.9.9 [...]

The Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver handles MIDI and audio over USB for models such as the MOXF and MX. It’s not the correct driver for a Motif XS.

USB-MIDI Driver V1.3.2 for Mac (10.5.8/10.6.8/10.7.5/10.8.x/10.9.x/10.10.x/10.11.x) is the most recent Motif XS USB driver for your OS.

Ok - thanks.

I removed the 1.9.9 driver and installed 1.3.2 - and it’s the same deal. No Midi is passed through on Yamaha Port 1. It is, as before, passed through on port 2-4, but the Motif doesn’t respond to those ports. As before - I can record the midi data, and play back via the Midi Input, but USB=nothing

With the correct driver, this would seem to be a Logic setup issue. Port 1 is the XS tone generator, and should be the one that Logic sends MIDI data to for playing.

The Ports 1~3 are described on page 44 of the XS Owner’s Manual. Port 4 is used for communication by the Yamaha Editor.

I don’t use Logic. Hopefully someone who does will post with setup information concerning routing.
