Hi
Yesterday I asked if upgrading from my MO6 to the MOFX6 was a good move. The reason I asked was because I find the drum sounds lacking on the MO6. I don’t know which model is the next logical jump from the MO6. Kind of confusing.

Aside from the flash memory expansion is there much difference in the MO6 AND MOXF6?

What is the next logical jump from the MO6 in terms of more sounds?

Hi
Yesterday I asked if upgrading from my MO6 to the MOFX6 was a good move.

For those interested, this discussion began here:

The reason I asked was because I find the drum sounds lacking on the MO6. I also heard some new sounds on the MOFX demos that sounded good that I don’t have as well.

OK.

sensory123 -

In addition, i run out of sequencer data occasionally but someone explained that the upgrade wouldn’t help with that issue.

Yes, as I posted in the thread linked above, MO and MOXF sequencer capacity are the same.

sensory123 -

Can someone explain the difference in the MOX and the MOXF? Does the MOXF already have the flash memory in it?
Are there new sounds in the moxf that are not in my mo6?

The flash module is optional. It’s available in three capacities - 512MB, 1GB(1024MB), and 2GB. Motifator sells the Mutec brand…

EDIT: You edited your post after I replied. However, my post should still cover your concerns.

Thank you for your help sir, my apologies as I am new to the forum and not overly knowledgeable about the MO6 I currently own. I like it but I purchased in in 2008 so I am imagining that quite a bit has changed, and heard some newer sounds on a youtube demo of the MOXF6.It’s confusing with the names motif,mo, mox, moxf, etc....

You’re welcome.

There’s no need to apologize. We’re here to help - as the banner at the top of the page states, “Support for the Motif Community”.

Information in the links I posted should help in determining changes made from one model to the next. The Motifs are full-featured, top-of-the-line models. The MO(X/XF) are less expense models with somewhat reduced capabilities. They also weigh less than the Motifs, making them a better choice for some users due to easier portability.

This article…

...does a reasonable job of explaining features and the timeline of the various models.

I just appreciate your time. That link was great but someone wrote earlier that the sequencer was not any different than my MO6 but the MO6 is 64 polyphony and the MOXF6 states it is 128 on the WIKIPEDIA link you sent me. That’s partially what got me asking and is an important distinction (if wikipedia is accurate)

“MOXF6 2013 61 FS 128 741MB 3,977 1,152 presets + 72 Kits, 384 user + 32 kits, 256 performances”

Details are important. I was the “someone” who responded to your earlier thread (link above), concerning the sequencer NOTE CAPACITY. Here’s a copy of the relevant post from that thread:

Hi I am currently a novice MO6 user and was wondering if I should upgrade to the MOFX6 for the better sounds and additional sequencer note capacity. Any thoughts?

Possible food for thought…

Which sounds do you think are better on the MOXF? Are there specifically some that you find lacking on your MO? Have you compared your MO6 to a MOXF6 by actually playing a MOXF?

As to sequencer note capacity, the specs are identical on the MO and MOXF. If you’re running out of sequencer memory, then you might want to investigate how to better manage what’s available, or consider using a DAW.

The NOTE CAPACITY, as you asked about and I replied to, is the same in the MO, MOX, and MOXF. You neither asked about nor did I comment on any other sequencer specifications.

Just to clarify some things for you…
The MO, MOX, and MOXF note capacity is “Approx. 226,000 notes” for each. The TONE GENERATOR polyphony is 64 for the MO and MOX, and 128 for the MOXF. The SEQUENCER “Maximum Polyphony” is given as “124 notes” for all three models.

Owner’s Manuals, with specs near the end (just before the index) in each…
MO6/MO8 Owner’s Manual:
http://download.yamaha.com/file/7429

MOX6/MOX8 Owner’s Manual:
https://www.motifator.com/storage/support/MOX6_8_OM.pdf

MOXF Owner’s Manual:
http://download.yamaha.com/file/60463

The reason I’ve referred you to various information sources is so that you could compare as many features as possible, and make an informed decision. Whether to purchase a MOXF is, of course, something you’ll have to decide for yourself.

Don’t confuse instrumental Polyphony with the Sequencer’s memory capacity.

Polyphony, in simple terms, is the number of musical notes that can be played simultaneously.  The 64 and 128 numbers you cited refer to this capacity, in the respective models.
