Hey,

Can somebody help me figure out the chords of this song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElYADN1C5Bg

I know that the basic chords should be D C# F#m. But i need to know what this guy is playing in the intro and I can’t figure it out. Anybody can help?

Thanks

The chord structure in its most simple form (as in the intro) is D, C#m, F#m.

It then starts to develop, using variations of:

D (Dmaj7), C#m (C#m7), F#m7

It then further develops the theme using:

D (or variations of D), A/C# (sometimes Amaj7/C#), F#m7, and then walks down through F#m7/E (or you can alternatively refer to it as A/E) on the way back down to the D chord.

(Hopefully you are aware that A/E refers to an A Major chord with an E in the bass, and similar for other “x/x” notations)

It is really just building variations on a basic theme, using altered notes and embellished chords to develop richness and/or emotional urgency.

But the underlying basic progression is at the top of this post.
