Hi, I have most of my files on a smart card, but I like to back up to a thumb drive or load old libraries via a thumb drives. Today, the ES doesn’t see the files on the thumb drive. Yes, they’re there, but it doesn’t see it and yes, I’ve tried multiple thumb drives. I’m sure I’ll have to get a professional to look at it, but thought there may be some other suggestions. Thanks. |

As an update, when I go to MOUNT the drive DOES NOT show. As I said, the files are there so I don’t know what’s going on. I need to get this fixed but hoping someone out there has an answer before going to the repair shop. |

If a USB drive isn’t recognized at all, first make sure that the File mode [SF1]CURRENT setting is “USB”, not “CARD”. See Page 30 of the ES Owner’s Manual. |

If the drives you’ve tried are ones that you previously had no trouble with over the past ten years, then it appears it’s time for a technician to determine what’s wrong. |

I did a factory reset and it seemed to fix the problem (fingers crossed). In the meantime I want to check the battery. Where can I find how to get to the battery in the manual? Or a link? |

Then why do I find various articles on this forum regarding replacing the battery on the motif ES? |

Because there are people who don’t know better. |

FYI....from Yamaha. You are mistaken, Spin.... The only battery in the MOTIF ES is a lithium type that holds the user memory when the unit it powered off. Like all batteries of this type eventually it no longer will hold a charge (like a watch battery) and the only way to replace it is to have it serviced. You could certainly try doing that yourself but it is not recommended. You would have to open the chassis and locate it in order to replace it. |

First of all, my user name is ”5pinDIN”, but it’s obvious that details escape you.

Secondly, I have no idea where you got that incorrect information “from Yamaha”. There are certainly ill-informed people who work for Yamaha, though.
Just to make it clear to anyone else who might read this…
For your information:
Of course, please feel free to rip into your ES and find the non-existent battery, or have someone charge you for “replacing the battery”. |

I was trying to help a friend format a USB drive for their Motif ES6, (inserted the USB drive, pressed the “File” button, selected “USB") and could NOT get the Format “button” to be active. I followed the ES manual, but was unable to make it work to format. I wondered if the ES board did not recognize the USB flash drive (I tried using a second identical, new USB flash drive. Would you kindly point me in the right direction? |
