Hi All, Does the Motif XF send Audio out of the USB cable? I have noticed that the analog outputs are a tad noisy. thanks! Eric |

No. The choices are the line outputs or FireWire via the optional FW16E.

I’ve found my XF to have good signal-to-noise performance from the line outputs. What’s the nature of what you’re hearing? Low frequency hum? Buzz? High frequency random (hiss)? High frequency pitched? Please describe it. Do you have a mic connected to the A/D INPUT? Whether you do or not, try setting Mic/Line to “line” in Utility mode - see page 223 of the XF Reference Manual. Also turn the rear panel A/D GAIN control fully counterclockwise. Recheck for noise. Is the noise apparent if you aren’t playing the keys? While not playing, does the position of the MASTER VOLUME slide control change the level of the noise? Many noise problems are caused by ground loops. Try disconnecting any cables going to the XF, other than power and line outputs to your amp/speakers. That is, remove any MIDI and USB connections. Is there any change in the noise then? Disconnect the line outputs. If you listen on headphones plugged into the PHONES jack, is the noise evident? |

Interesting… I will go through some more testing… I have 2 XFs now and I am pretty sure they both have the same noise level. And I am pretty sure I have removed all cables to remove any misc issues. And.... my other instruments are not as noisy. Will do your tests and report back… thank you!! Eric |

There’s also the S/PDIF output. My XF7 is super clean and plenty loud enough. Sorry to hear that you are experiencing these problems. |

Good point, thanks for the reminder! I have a tendency to forget about that, possibly because I have an FW16E installed.

I have a feeling something external to EricMonroe‘s XF(s) is the problem. |
