No longer appears on the Yamaha Website unless you search for it.

This is presumably because the MODX is out.

https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/modx/index.html

Yamaha’s new mid range product, which is a cut down Montage.

Discontinued, if that is what’s happened, means they won’t be making them any more.  I’m sure they will still be supporting them on their forum though, just like Motifator does.

I always find this such a interesting question.

Has “X” synthesizer been discontinued?

It does make sense if you’re looking for a synth and can’t find it anywhere.  But I see this same question come up by folk who already own “X”.  Maybe the question is asked out of just sheer curiosity, but I always find it weird.  I own a few pieces of Yamaha gear besides my Motif XF8 and MOX8 e.g

MM8, QY100 , P80

They’re all still in fairly regular use.  I would imagine they’ve been discontinued, but I could care less.  I already own them.  Two years ago I needed the screen replaced on the MM8.  I took it an authorized Yamaha dealer and he took care of it for a reasonable price.  Last year for the first time I had to replace the battery inside the QY100, I had no problem finding one at the local Walgreen.

Maybe I just don’t understand why folks ask the question.  Unless of course they are looking for a piece of gear and can’t seem to find a new one anywhere.

On another note.  I recently had the MM8 out on a gig and some dude thought it was some brand new synth that had just came out.  He wanted to know how much it costed and where he could get one.  I guess in his case the “discontinued” question might be a valid one.  LOL

In my experience, some people who ask whether a product has been discontinued do so because they don’t want to buy “an older model”. They want “the latest/greatest” - even if it doesn’t actually meet their requirements any better than (or as well as) the older model. They may just have a need to “keep up with the Joneses”.

I’m an older model. I hope none of you are wondering when I’ll be discontinued.  ;-)

You’d regenerate, but I can’t say for sure if you’d still have your current wide ranging areas of expertise.

The universe can be a bit unforgiving. I’d suggest that when you come back, you’d probably know an awful lot about naturally forming seashore glass, as a kind of vacation from the previous subjects.

Well as far some technology goes, the first version of the product often has the most features.  As the company finds out what the demand/profit/cost ratios are the next version has fewer features (though some are improved) and the version after that has even less features (with some improvements) this cycle goes on until the company gets to an “optimized version” where they have optimized the least amount of features for the most money a customer will pay.

I’ve seen this a lot with computer hardware, software based products.

This lends itself somewhat to the notion that older is sometimes better.

For certain the Motif/MOX family has more to offer than the Montage/MODX family.

And keeping up with the Joneses in this case causes you a “net loss” when it comes to the instrument
