Welcome to the forum. You’ve posted in the forum for the Rack XS. However, what you’ve indicated as displayed doesn’t seem correct for that model. Please verify which model you have (on the front panel above the LCD). |

Tell us a bit more about what happened. Did the problem occur suddenly? The Rack XS was introduced in 2008. Was the firmware/OS of this unit never updated? Is there an mLAN16E2 installed? If so, remove it, disconnect any cables other than AC power, and try again to boot. |

Let’s see if your Rack XS will enter Test Mode…
1) Begin with the Rack XS power off.
That will take several seconds. If the TEST screen is then displayed, you’ll see the firmware level, and should be able to press [UTILITY] to do a factory reset. Let us know what happens. |

Apparently something went amiss while loading the .X0A file. You might want to update the Editor from version 1.3 to 1.4, since it fixed some problems.
You can get…
The later “Standalone” Editor versions (not requiring Studio Manager) might work with Windows XP/SP3.
Â
The most recent version is 1.04, available at the sites linked above. Please fully read the “Readme” file that comes with the OS update download before deciding whether you want to do the update, since improper MIDI data transfer could cause a problem.
Â
That should have read “Contents”. If it read “Bantents”, something might have been corrupted.
Â
You’re very welcome - I’m glad your Rack XS is functional again. |

One sequencer equals another one. What matters most is the Motif XS rack is the only instrument hooked to the MIDI interface/USB cable. |

Yes, that’s why I wrote that it “might” work - I’ve found that Yamaha applications sometimes work on Windows versions that they don’t list as compatible. Although I don’t have a Rack XS (I have XS and XF keyboards), I installed the Rack XS 1.6.3 Editor Standalone on my XP/SP3 computer, and it appears to run without problem.
Â
The update file has to be sent via MIDI, but using Cubase isn’t the only way to do that. Any sequencer that you find to be reliable should work, and users have had good results with Windows Media Player.
See these threads:
Please make sure that you have no trouble sending other .MID files to the Rack XS before you attempt an OS update. |

ok..
when using the editor (stand-alone or within studio manager using the USB cable), how can I do to play the rack? I mean, is it possible to connect the extarnal keyboard in some way to listen to the loaded sounds, or edited sounds?

You’re welcome.
Â
If you’re concerned, perhaps you could skip the update. From the “Readme"…
...so unless you experience such a problem, it might not be important.
Â
See MIDI channels and MIDI ports, specifically the Port 3 information, on page 18 of the Owner’s Manual. With MIDI In/Out set to USB, data from a MIDI controller connected to the Rack’s MIDI-In will transmit on Port 3. Any software that allows rerouting of that Port 3 data to Port 1 should work.
From one of my posts in a previous thread…
The above is based on the 1.6.3 version of the Editor, running stand-alone. |
