Hi. I’m trying to update my firmware from 1.02 to 1.03 in order to use my S90 ES it with Studio Manager, since I noted I could not set midi in and out ports on Studio Manager. So I downloaded the firmware update file, put the indicated file on a usb pendrive, and inserted on back of S90 es on the existing ‘to device’ USB slot. Then I press Enter to update but a ‘R/W Error’ message appears on the S90 screen.

I’ve already tied three different pen drive models, including Kingston and Sandisk, and formated the pendrives in MacOs, Ex FAT and FAT 32 modes, but both could not be read.

How am I supposed to fix this? Thanks in advance.

For the proper updating procedure, please read the “Readme” file that comes with the download.

I have read the file, and plugged the pendrive on the usb connection, turned the S90 power on, while holding down the [MASTER] and [STORE] buttons. It appeared the firmware number and then I hit Enter but then appeared the R/W Error message.

In that case, the USB drives you’re using probably aren’t compatible.
Here is the S90ES Compatible Device List:
http://download.yamaha.com/file/53380

Unfortunately, the list hasn’t been recently updated. If you have any older, small USB drives (but at least 4GB), even if not on the list, they might have a better chance of working.

I have tried with Kingston DTI/2GB, seemed like the Kingston DTIG2/16GB on the list. Maybe the DTIG2 was mispelled, but mine DTI did not work. Any other method instead of pen drive?

Have you formatted the flash drive on the S90ES? See the Owner’s Manual, pages 168 and 170.

Are you placing the 8E24OS_.PGM file in the root of the flash drive? The file can’t be in a folder.

It worked! I was not formatting the pendrive on the S90ES, so now I followed the instructions you told. Thank you very very much. :)

You’re very welcome - I’m glad you were able to complete the OS update.
