Hi all. Forgive me if this is somewhat out of order. Basically, my Motif8 keybed has crapped out, and I have gigs this weekend. I’d like to midi it to my MO8 so that I can play the Motif8 performances with my MO8. I have no idea how to do this. I’ve slogged through both manuals, and have received competing advice online. I have a midi to midi/USB cable. When I connect the two keyboards, the Midi light does come on, but I get no notification on the keyboards that any midi data is being exchanged. I’ve tried reversing the slots, but I’m assuming I’ll plug the midi cable into the Motif8’s OUT slot and into the MO8’s IN slot, as the MO8 should be receiving info from the Motif8. I’ve connected them, I’ve fiddled with settings, but I don’t know what to do to go into “midi mode” or something so that the MO8 plays what I hope is coming from the Motif8. Thoughts? Thanks! |

I don’t know what you’re calling “a midi to midi/USB cable” exactly is, but what you need is a plain MIDI cable with a 5-pin DIN connector at each end (and nothing additional), such as:

Presuming you want to play the Motif8 from the MO8’s keys, you’d connect the MIDI-Out of the MO8 to the MIDI-In of the Motif8, using the type of cable I just described. As long as the two synth’s settings are properly configured for MIDI communications, that’s all there is to it. |
