Heres a thought has anyone tried it?  In order to get around the 1 effect limit on a voice. Has any tried making a custom voice identical to the original but placing a different insert effect. Then layer both. Are there any issues youve had with the sound quality?

Theoretically this should work, but I suspect that in practice there would be some drawbacks. The most obvious one would be polyphony, as you would use twice the voices. Second, this trick would allow only “parallel” effects, but not “serial” ones (the output of the first effect to be processed by the second, as in the MOX/MOXF/MOTIF series, which allow either parallel or serial effects). And third (and most important for me), slight differences in timing might lead to phase problems and cancellation of certain frequencies, making the synth sound “strange”. In fact, the effect called “phaser” is based in doubling the same sound with slight differences in timing.

mrmx, I have tried your idea on some of my custom performances with reasonable success.  In particular, I used that idea to create an organ voice performance that used both the rotary and distortion effects.  It is a reasonable way to get multiple parallel effects on a single voice.  My recommendation is to just try it out on your own creations and decide for your self whether they work for you.
