Anyone else notice a whole host of top forum members don’t seem to be contributing much any more?

Cue tumbleweeds.

This time of “silence” is the calm before the storm prior to the release of the Montage. The Montage demos have literally died over the last 4 weeks. That’s even more of a mystery to me. Why stop advertising/showcasing the Montage capabilities? I have no idea.

A lot of folks went over to yamahasynth.com to have access to BM and the other Yamaha support folks.

I went over for a while but to be honest the website itself is very poorly designed and the discussions there have been of little interest to me. A lot of it is help requests that are cross posted here as well. Now that the Motif is on it’s way out and Montage is the focus, I have little reason to go back.

I’ll probably hang around here to answer anything that stumps 5pinDIN (ha ha). I first came here in 2005 when looking to buy an ES, it’s been a fun ten years.

I like this site because it’s reasonably independent. Some of the postings on yamahasynth.com are informative, but the site ulitmately is under the control of Yamaha marketing. The Yamaha folks are generally open, but pre-release Montage leaks? They disappeared politburo-style.

There’s a role for independent sites. Not a slam on Yamaha—just sayin’.

I also like this site but I am very tired of these babblers (purcell, psychobabble etc.) hanging around here and ruining every second thread…

It is really a pity that the site owners here do not kick such trolls!

Regards, :)

Funnily enough a day before you wrote this Yamaha uploaded a couple of new demos to youtube.

I mean people who give help here, about all kinds of subjects with advice that you can take to the bank.  No longer posting.

purcell has tanked this forum for me. I rarely post but have been following it for years. I understand he has done the same on other forums. I just don’t need another person’s mental illness in my life.

You seem to be stepping in more, but I think 5pinDIN is posting less and less.  There’s a bad atmosphere or a funk over this forum or something.

I don’t have a yamaha synth anymore (use to have a MOXF 61) still have my p 115b......
I was interested by the Montage, but the price here in Montréal, taxe included is $ 4,200 (61) $ 6,000 (88) so it’s out of reach for many of us. So maybe it’s why many will stop posting.
Great synth but...............

While I would agree with this, there is no way to prove the effect it’s had on our members, although common sense would dictate that it hasn’t been good. I can say with confidence however that all of the negativity and continuing annoyances have not helped. At all.

I’d gather that like myself, many of us visit here to learn, to help, or to have an enjoyable time free of the rigors that life provides each day. Leaving here after becoming frustrated and disgusted does not prompt one for a quick return.

I value this independent motif series forum. Let’s keep it going, healthfully.

This site is a must for Yamaha synth owners, as for the babblers I just don’t bother reading
what they write. You can spot them really fast and ignore them.

Please do. :-)

Seriously - I enjoy reading any relevant posts, and keeping Motifator alive depends on there being sufficient participation in the forums.

I finally learned to view new threads from the home view, where one can choose ‘past 24 hours’, or ‘past week’. This was helpful when the signal-to-noise became low on my board’s sub-forum. This overview is very helpful in uniting all the sub forums, which helps unite the entire motif family. (Note this family includes the moxf, mx & their predecessors.)

Some of the postings on yamahasynth.com are informative, but the site ulitmately is under the control of Yamaha marketing.

Although Keyfax runs this site they did so for Yamaha...they also ran sites for the AW recorders and the S90 synth family. Where do you think all the support articles came from? Yamaha marketing for years talked up these sites as a benefit of buying Yamaha...most mfrs do not have user forums like this one.

Yamaha has chosen for whatever reason to create the yamahasynth.com forums and store. Yamaha folks who used to post here (BM first and foremost) are all there now and not coming back.

As the Motif family fades into oblivion, expect to see less and less participation here. That’s just the way it is.

A lot of interesting comments and observations here but feel we should take issue with the fading into oblivion part.

Last count there are/were several hundred thousand ‘Motifs’ out there in the world and unless people are going to start heaving them into skips, chances are most will remain in use by someone for many years to come. As instruments change hands ‘new’ users are created, who will face the same challenges as any new user of this equipment.

Who knows what the future will bring of course but we also feel that having a free-thinking (even if sometimes rather too free thinking) environment such as this is, and will remain, extremely valuable.

Thus, we hope, rumors of oblivion-fading on the part of Motif and Motifator.com are still somewhat exaggerated.

MM

PS Oh, and actually we have never run the site ‘for Yamaha.’ Yamaha - and ourselves of course - have benefitted from it to varying degrees over the years but really we’ve always run it for you guys and gals.

Cue tumbleweeds.

Maybe they all went to Korg Forum, there’s a discussion there since late jan 2016
and it’s still alive
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=102404

Many intrigued Kronos owners, almost impossible not to compare the two synths,
at least they have one thing in common, the price !

Padking.
