Hi all,

I’d like to view the performance data from the .X0A file on the 80s Pop/Rock Soundset, which I’ve loaded onto my Rack XS. Of course, it’s not possible to load performance data from a sound library on the XS Rack. However, I’d like to manually create multis that recreate the performances.

I’ve tried both the Yamaha Motif XS (not Rack) Editor and the Performance Editor from the demo version of the Melas Yamaha Motif XS editors. I haven’t been able to find a way to view the data from the performances. On the Melas program, when I load the .X0A file, I see the list of performances, but when I highlight one of the performances and select “Edit,” all of the fields (such as the list of voices in the performance) are blank.

Any tips on how to view the performance data on a computer (without having an XS) would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Ben

While it’s true that XS Performances can’t be directly loaded into a Rack XS, there is a way…

...but it requires a cooperative XS owner who also has the 80s Pop/Rock Soundset. Perhaps a Motifator member will volunteer.

The Yamaha Editors cover only Voice, Song or Pattern modes, and the Melas demo version has limited capabilities. Obviously, purchasing the Melas software would do the trick.

Thank you. I actually purchased the Melas editor bundle for the Rack XS after I verified it would enable me to transfer the 80s Pop/Rock soundset voices. It seamlessly performed a bulk dump of the soundset. Super convenient and works great. I downloaded the demo of the Melas XS Editor. Its Performance Editor allows you to access the edit function for individual performances--unlike a few other features which are either grayed out or indicate they are not available in the demo version. Also the demo version of the Rack XS voice editor enables you to edit individual voices, adjust their parameters and save them to the rack. So for the XS Performance Editor I had thought that you might need to be connected to an XS for it to work. But maybe it is simply disabled as you suggest.

It appears that you’re correct - the Melas Performance Editor does get the data from a connected Motif. The demo version allows editing of only the first Part, but the data for the other three Parts is there, although grayed. Performances can be imported, but apparently only from Melas .prf files.

So where does Ben stand now, does he still need the data converted on an XS via Song/Pattern mode?

Thanks so much to both of you.

I am still interested in getting the 80s Pop/Rock soundset performance data--perhaps from an XS owner who has the set. I’m willing to enter the data manually into my Rack XS to create equivalent multis.

I also emailed Mr. Melas’s company to see if there is any way to access the performance data solely on the computer with the full version of his XS software but perhaps the answer will be no based on 5pinDIN’s latest reply.

Shouldn’t be a problem. I may require assistance however. I struggle with the editor at times. I’ve done it before but it’s been a while. I’ll get after it.

Wow, thank you so much. The first link on this thread, from 5pinDIN, suggests an approach for getting at the data. Please don’t hesitate to let me know how I can help.

Did the 80s Voices load to User 1 bank?

Is USER1 079(E15) Alone Dx?

Pending a reply from Ben, I’ve created the data via user 1 with the performances assigned to song mode numerically through number 24. My next step is to determine which computer has the editor installed, and if I can function it. 5pin, do you have the soundset and would you like me to forward this file to you to likely expedite the process successfully?

I do have the soundset. I’ve saved the Performances as 24 Melas .prf files, using the demo version of the Performance Editor. That would be for a contingency plan in case the Editor files don’t work, or just to check the data. Programming all the Parameters for each Multi from .prf file data as displayed in the Melas Performance Editor would be possible, but extremely tedious.

Just to make sure this is going to work, I’m attaching a zip which includes the A01 Alone .prf and .X0E. Ben, please let us know if the .X0E does the trick, and if the Multi matches the Parameter values in the Melas .prf file. If it does, we can do the other 23.

Hi there,
I’ve downloaded the ZIP with the .X0E and .prf files. The .X0E loads on both my full version of the Melas Rack XS editor and the demo version of the Melas XS editor. However:

--I cannot open the .prf file in the Performance Editor as the Melas program says that an XS must be connected.
--After I load the .X0E file in both the Rack XS and XS editors, I do not see any Multi data. All the fields are blank. In addition, the performance data is blank in the XS editor.

Let me know if I’m missing something, or if there is anything else I can do. I am grateful for your efforts.
