I want to lower the volume of an individual “sound” in a drum arp, I want the crash cymbal to be louder and I want the snare hit on beat 2 to be quieter… how do I do this on the Motif XS8?

Edit the Arpeggio Phrase.
You can do this easily with Drum Arpeggios.
Unfortunately, you don’t tell us which one so we could give you specifics but you will figure this out on your own.

Record the ARP Phrase to the Sequencer - set it so that the Arp Phrase plays once and record it to the sequencer.

Now you can edit the data on the Tracks EVENT LIST - changing the velocity of the snare on beat 2, as you wish it to be.

Edit the velocity of the Crash hit making it hit louder (which could simply be done by editing the Drum Kit Voice you are using). The Level of each Drum is programmable within the KIT itself.

Then use the “PUT TRACK TO ARPEGGIO” Job to reinstate the data to a USER ARP location. When setting up the JOB you will use the CONVERT TYPE = Fixed (Drum arps do not transpose and do not respond to chord tense).

If you require more information, post back here.
