Can I record a vintage drum machine with midi in- only using an audio interface with midi in- and midi out- for use in Cubase 6? I don’t want to buy anything major if it is unnecessary. If not will a cassette portastudio work instead?

If not how can I use a drum machine from 1989, without spending a bundle? I like live sound. Is that all it is good for using todays equipment? (I define todays equipment as things you can still purchase new).
