I’m very much into voice editing and I am trying to decide if the Melas Voice editor is what I want. I have the demo version right now.

Some questions:

Can I edit parameters of the insert effects with the Melas voice editor? For example in the Melas Voice editor demo, the “Delay LCR” insert effect has a little pop-up with adjustments for delay time, feedback, etc., but they are greyed out. Is that because this is only a demo version or is it because in the MX series, those parameters cannot be adjusted on the insert effects?

I have already created a few user voices which I named. However, when I go to the VYCRO performance editor, it does not see the user voice names in their respective categories. Instead the User voices are seen as all in a separate “User Voices” bank and the voice names I gave them do not appear, only the User voice numbers. Is there a way to get it to see the names? This really should be fixed.

VYCRO is also hinting that they will have an MX voice editor soon altho I am guessing it won’t be free. Any word on how it will compare to the Melas editor?

Yes, you can. They are not available in the VycroMX PERFORMANCE Editor, because Insert Effects are apart of the Voice. In order to edit them you would need to get a Voice Editor. Melas Editor is available, the folks that make the VycroMX should have theirs available soon. Stay tuned.

The VYCRO MX PERFORMANCE EDITOR is exactly that, a Performance Editor, the Voice Names are Voice parameters. And it only stores the Location of the Voice used. Not sure if the MX dumps the Voice Name, since it does not deal with Voice parameters… Whether this can be “fixed” you’d need to contact the programmer.

Vycro does have plans to release other tools for the MX, again, contact them for details.

I thought I read somewhere that only 2 parts (voices) can be loaded into a performance using the MX’s own inboard menu and navigation system. It’s only thru the VYCRO performance editor that up to 16 voices/parts can be loaded into a single performance. Is that true?

What if I want to create a performance and I want more than 2 of those parts to be my own user voices?  Will the performance editor be able to load up to 16 of my own user voices into a performance?

I guess since VYCRO doesn’t see the user voice names I will have to know them by their User voice numbers. That’s still very awkward but I hope I can at least access them for use with the Performance editor.

Yes, the PART MIDI Channel parameter is available in the VycroMX Performance Edit. You can create layers with note limit regions to your heart’s content and you can STORE the results to the MX49/MX61 so you can take your custom Performances with you.

Yes you can create a Performance using any MX Voices Preset or User, there is no restriction there. The PERFORMANCE EDITOR will remember that you used a USER VOICE location in your PERFORMANCE - say your custom Performance is made up as follows:

PART 1 - Preset A. Guitar
PART 2 - User E. Guitar
PART 3 - User Keyboard
PART 4 - User Bass
PART 5 - User Analog Pad

PART 10 - User Drum Kit (Rhythm Pattern)

The PERFORMANCE Editor will remember the locations of the Voices that you’ve used and faithfully point to those locations… The Preset location is always going to contain the correct Voice (after all it is fixed). As long as you keep your User Voices in their location, the Performance Editor will properly recall the data that will sound correctly.

If you subsequently load in new USER VOICES well, then you will be programming by serendipity - where whatever Voice occupies the location will now be recalled.

The PERFORMANCE EDITOR does not actually memorize the data of each pice, only it’s location. Clear?

I guess since VYCRO doesn’t see the user voice names I will have to know them by their User voice numbers. That’s still very awkward but I hope I can at least access them for use with the Performance editor.

Actually you don’t need to know them by Name… When you start to work with it, you’ll see. The names appear in the screen of the MX (press the [PART SELECT] button, to view the Voice assigned to each PART 1-16). Remember the MX has a USER Bank. Looking for your Voice to assign it a PART the name is in the screen of the MX - just as you named it. Not awkward at all. Try it before you decide.
:-)

Ice cream looks terrible if its melted in a bowl… Still taste awesome ( some say better) don’t judge the awkwardness until you get your spoon out! It maybe a non-issue.
