Not sure I follow the question, but this may help:

You can assign several PARTS to MIDI Channel 1, say you assign the first four PARTS to Ch 1, and you assign the next three to MIDI Channel 2, ... When you transmit on Channel [1] you will hear Parts 1-4 as you have split and layered them, and when select Channel 2 you will hear Parts 5, 6 and 7, as they have been mapped on the keyboard.
In this fashion you can group multiple sounds on MIDI channels, and then access them by transmitting on that MIDI CHANNEL.

Thanks BM.  I wasn’t that clear but I’ve set up a few performances with more or less favorite voices.  I pull up Perf 2 and if I press “part” all 16 parts are what I set up.  Perhaps 5guitars, 3 horns, etc… A voice Not necessarily corresponding to the bank name.

So my earlier question had to deal with each part (1-16) being able to be split?  I haven’t seen how with just using the keyboard.  I have vycro on a laptop but right now it’s dedicated to my xf.

Setting up splits is a breeze otherwise.  I just wanted to see if/how I can do it in 1 or more parts within a performance

We are not sure what your earlier question was. But if you are assigning more than one PART to a MIDI Channel, then you are using the EDITOR - let me be clear: You must use the EDITOR in order to adjust the MIDI RECEIVE CHANNEL parameter of the MX.

So if you did so to create your PERFORMANCES you are connected to your computer. There is never a reason to ‘dedicate’ a laptop to the XF… if it has an available USB port connect it, as well. They will not conflict with each other.

Let’s be clear about the word SPLIT. In the way Yamaha always uses it, a SPLIT is defined by an UPPER and LOWER - with a single NOTE that defines the SPLIT POINT.

If you are talking about creating multiple regions across the keyboard, that is not referred to as a “Split”. You would use a parameter called NOTE RANGE.

When you launch the VycroMX PERFORMANCE EDITOR, you will see a button labeled NOTE RANGE and one for VELOCITY RANGE - use these to create the multiple play regions across the keyboard and vertically as to velocity.

MIDI CHANNEL, NOTE RANGE, VELOCITY RANGE are among the parameters that are accessible via the PERFORMANCE EDITOR only.

The design concept is to be quick and easy when on stage. If you are going to build complex setups, this is best handled with the computer - and since you can STORE the setups in the MX (no matter how complex), it really is a no-brainer to connect the MX via USB to your computer.

It is the Motif-engine in there, and rather than overburden the on-board operating system, you gain access to the real power of the tone engine via the computer interface. This makes perfect sense when you realize just how many parameters there are and just how many screens it would take to squeeze it all into the MX.

When you are ready for this type of editing 0- it is so quick and easy to navigate on the VycroMX EDITOR… why wouldn’t you.

The parameters in the MX interface itself and there are many, including full access to the powerful VCM Effects and EQ. They have been carefully prioritized so you can work the MX in a live situation.

The PERFORMANCE Editor is a good place to begin to explore this engine.
