I love my Motif ES6 but have been looking for something lighter and the MX seems to fit the bill.  I played one in the store last week and loved it. I use the ES primarily for live performance and use the stock sounds with some custom 2 and 3 layer presets I’ve saved.  I occasionally used some of the samba performances when I’m doing a solo piano set.  I know I’ll lose the ability to mix my custom presets in real time with the sliders and be limited to only 2 layer presets which I can probably live with given the tradeoff in the weights of the two keyboards.  Anything else I’m not thinking of as I decide to sell off the ES to fund the MX?  Trying to avoid buyers/sellers remorse.
Thanks!
Larry

Did you know… on the MX you can layer more than two sounds. The LAYER and SPLIT button are all about creating an instant layer or split. If you plan ahead you can create massive multiple PART layers, splits and split/layers if you use the Free downloadable VYCRO MX EDITOR

http://vycromx.com

This Editor gives you access to parameters (like setting the MIDI Receive Channel) that are not available from the front panel… Click on “MIDI” and assign the PARTS to the MIDI Receive Channel as you require. Each PERFORMANCE recalls 16 PARTS - each with a VOICE of your choosing. So you can prepare your mega Performances ahead of time and certainly 2 or 3 PART layers are no problem at all. Once you create your own PERFORMANCE you can store it in one of the 128 PERFORMANCE locations on board the MX.

You do not need the Editor at the gig, you can prepare your setups ahead of time - store them in the instrument, and go to the gig.

Hope that helps.

I also have a Motif ES8, and while the new MX offers several intriguing possibilities, the Motif ES is still a superior instrument when it comes to voice creation, not to mention that the Motif ES also has wonderful controller capabilities that the MX does doesn’t match. The MX is a good low-cost option for a laptop computer connected all-in-one studio.
