I would like to use Logic Express 9 with my Motif ES7 to create and print sheet music for a three piece horn section. I would like to be able to “record” each midi part individually in real time then play them back as a section to hear a Trumpet on the high staff, Sax on the second and Trombone on the third.  Once all is right I would like to print up the “charts”.

I found a very informative set of videos on how to actually create a project and work once in Logic.  What I could use help on is setting up the Mo and Logic to work together to accomplish this.

I don’t have a MIDI interface but I have a Macbook Pro with USB that I hope will work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Kevin

On the Motif ES7:
Press [UTILITY]
Press [F5] MIDI
Press [SF4] OTHER
Set MIDI IN/OUT = USB

You need to download and install the “Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver” for your particular computer’s Operating System:

http://download.yamaha.com

Select your country
Type in your Model Name: Motif ES7
When the Search Results appear, verify: Motif ES7
You can refine your search by selecting your COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM.

When the results appear download the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver appropriate for your computer.

The download includes the INSTALLATION GUIDE (all the instructions you will need to install this MIDI driver). The Driver will allow you communicate bi-directionally between your Motif ES and your computer for all things MIDI.

With your Motif ES connected to an available USB Port on your computer, you can go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES and find the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver. Opening the Control Panel will indicate you have successfully installed the MIDI driver.

That is all you need to accomplish your goal from the viewpoint of the Motif ES7. It will be available as a MIDI INPUT source for your DAW (Logic Express 9)

Hope that helps.
