Looking for some information.  I have XS8 that I use to generate different voices in Song mode driven by my finale software to playback all of the different voices in my orchestrations.  I would like to be able to record all of these voices at one time.  I am looking at purchasing a new PreSonus mixer with the Studio One 2 software.  Can I use the assignable outputs to send the voices to a diffrent track in the software?  Any help out there?

It is not clear from your post exactly what your goal is. You mention being able to play your files and record mulitple VOICES at once… but it is not clear if you are talking about recording the MIDI data or recording the data as audio.

And if as audio do you want to record separate Tracks (multi-tracking) or are you simply interested in creating a stereo recording.

Did you know: You can playback your files through the Motif XS and record the results as a stereo .wav file (16-bit/44.1kHz) directly to a connected USB stick or directly to your computer (via Ethernet)

To be more clear I am wanting to record each voice as a seperate audio channel to multiple tracks.  I already know how to select the output to L/R and Assignable L/R and by using the pan features on Finale I can send audio of at least two voices to my current multi track recorder which is a AW16G.  I currently am having to use both a Motif ES8 and XS8 but the max audio I can send to the recorder is 6 different audio signals.  I would like to be able to send all 16 channels of voices (audio) to my new set up which is a Computer running PreSonus Studio One which will be connected to a Studio Live mixer.  I was hoping to accomplish this as I have seen that on the yamaha units that there are additional output selections other than the Main Stereo and Assignable stereo outputs.  I hope that this will help and I appreciate any input you can give.

The Motif XS8 has a built-in mLAN16E2 Firewire interface, that when connected to your computer gives you 16 audio bus outputs… these can be configured as stereo or mono sends as you require. Each Motif XS PART can be routed to a mono bus or to a odd/even stereo paired bus, as your composition requires.

Required to use this firewire function you need to download and install the “Yamaha Steinberg FW ASIO Driver” for your particular computer’s operating system. YSFW, for short… this driver handles both MIDI and audio communication between your Motif XS8 and your computer via a single FW connection. It, literally, turns your Motif XS8 into your computers ‘soundcard’ - that is, it will be responsible for routing audio into and back out of your computer DAW. It connects your XS8 to your computer on what is called a “peer-to-peer” relationship.

Even before you connect - you can see how the assignments will take place:
When you are working in SONG or PATTERN mode
Go to [MIXING]
Press [EDIT]
Press a numbered button [1]-[16] to select a PART to edit
Press [F1] VOICE
Press [SF2] OUTPUT
Here you can find the OUTPUT SELECT parameter. By default all are routed to the main Stereo L/R output
With the OUTPUT SELECT parameter highlighted press [SF6] LIST
A list of available output assignment options will appear.

those listed include the analog assignable outputs (asL/asR) and the individual mLAN/FW outputs listed as odd/even stereo pairs (m1/m2, m3/m4… etc) and as individual mono sends (m1-m14). Each PART can be assigned to an output bus. (In fact, within a Drum Kit you can even assign individual drums to their own bus, if you wish)… it is that flexible.

The concept of a bus is easy to understand when you realize a “bus” is a vehicle for carrying one or more passengers on a specific route to a destination. The same is true here. By default all 16 passengers (16 PARTS) are on the stereo bus (L/R), but you are free to assign PARTS to their own bus, or you can send multiple signals on the same bus - depending on your requirements.

Please recognize that not all PARTS are stereo, and not all PARTS are mono. For example, the Full Concert Grand piano VOICE is a stereo VOICE and would benefit from being transferred on a stereo bus. Typcially, sounds like guitar and bass are mono, and do not require a stereo bus, they can easily be accommodated by a single mono send. And while a B3 orgain sound is mono, the Rotary Speaker INSERTION EFFECT is a stereo effect and would benefit from being routed on a odd/even stereo pair.
